Hey everyone! I wanted to share something really powerful that has been on my heart lately, especially after spending some quiet time with my open Bible page. I was drawn to Proverbs 19, and specifically verse 23, where it says, 'THE FEAR OF THE LORD LEADS TO LIFE.' It’s a verse I’ve seen highlighted countless times, but truly understanding its meaning has been a journey for me. When I first heard about 'fearing God,' my immediate thought was, 'Why would I want to be afraid of God?' It felt counterintuitive to a loving God. However, I’ve learned that the meaning of fearing God isn't about terror or dread, but a profound reverence, respect, and awe for His infinite power, holiness, and love. It’s recognizing that God is in control of everything and acknowledging His supreme authority in our lives. This isn't the kind of fear that is not from God – that tormenting anxiety that keeps us small. Instead, it’s a healthy, spiritual posture. This kind of fear of the Lord leads to life in so many ways. For me, it means living with a deep awareness of His presence and His standards. It guides my decisions, helping me choose paths that honor Him, which ultimately brings peace and true fulfillment. When we walk in the fear of the Lord, we're essentially choosing wisdom over folly, and that brings incredible blessings. It’s about cultivating a god-fearing man or woman, someone who seeks His guidance daily. So, how to fear God in a practical sense? It starts with acknowledging who He is. Reading bible verses, especially from the KJV fear of the Lord passages, has been so helpful. It's about obedience born out of love and respect, not compulsion. It's about seeking His will and trusting His plan, knowing He cares for us. When I feel overwhelmed by worldly worries, I remind myself of verses like fear not for I am with you or be still and know that I am God. These aren't just pretty words; they are anchors for my soul, helping me understand that fear does not come from God. There’s a difference between the reverential fear we're talking about and the natural human fear of danger, or even the tormenting fear that paralyzes us. Some theologians talk about 3 types of fear in the Bible, but the 'fear of the Lord' is unique. It’s an embrace of His majesty that paradoxically brings freedom from other fears. It reminds me of dont worry verses that encourage us to cast our anxieties on Him. Even that powerful verse, Isaiah 41:10, which I saw highlighted on an open Bible page recently, speaks to God’s unwavering support, reinforcing that we have no need for negative fear when we truly revere Him. Ultimately, embracing the spirit of the fear of the Lord has reshaped my perspective. It’s not a burden; it’s a pathway to a richer, more intentional life, filled with His guidance and peace.
