God’s Mercy Isn’t Random

I used to struggle with Romans 9—it felt like God was randomly choosing who gets mercy. But after digging deeper, I realized His mercy isn’t random at all. Romans 9 isn’t about favoritism; it’s about God’s sovereignty and foreknowledge. He knows who will choose Him and who won’t, and His choices align perfectly with His justice and mercy.

Paul’s examples, like Jacob and Esau, show that God’s plan has never been about human effort—it’s always been about faith. That truth hit me hard. I didn’t earn God’s mercy, and I couldn’t. It’s about trusting Him and surrendering to His grace.

And here’s what really changed my heart: God’s faithfulness shows up in both His mercy and His judgment. Even when He judges, He’s being true to who He is—holy and just.

Romans 9 isn’t distant or cold. It’s a glimpse into the heart of a God who sees the full story and carries out His plan with perfect mercy and justice. And that makes me trust Him more, not less.
