Does water help your skin or is it a myth?

... Read moreFrom my personal experience and observations, drinking an adequate amount of water daily does play a role in promoting healthier skin, but it’s not the sole factor. Staying hydrated helps maintain the skin's elasticity, which can contribute to a more plump and youthful appearance. However, the quality of your skin also depends on other factors like diet, skincare products, and lifestyle habits. Interestingly, not all types of water are equal in supporting skin health. Some people report that natural mineral water with beneficial minerals may have a slight edge over purified or tap water when it comes to skin hydration. I've tried switching between different water sources and noticed subtle differences in skin smoothness and clarity. Moreover, drinking water alone won’t automatically prevent acne or give you a natural glow. Consistent skincare routines, sun protection, and a balanced diet rich in antioxidants are equally, if not more, important. That said, increasing daily water intake did help my skin recover faster from dryness and environmental stress. Ultimately, water is a foundational part of healthy skin care, but it should be combined with other good habits. So while “just drink water” might feel like an oversimplified myth, it's a beneficial practice that complements a comprehensive skin health approach.

I have dry flaky skin. Like it peels like I’m sunburnt in the winter. But I started making sure I drink at least 64 oz a day and my skin has cleared up a lot and I changed my skin care routine. But water hydrates your skin cells from the inside and my cleanser and moisturizer helps hydrate the outside and I lock all of it in with Vaseline. So I guess water is like a good foundation for good skin but it doesn’t replace a whole skincare routine.
