How we split our household chores as a "married" couple

5/11 Edited to

... Read moreLiving together before officially getting married has been a huge learning experience, especially when it comes to managing household chores. We quickly realized that being clean freaks in our own ways helped us create a chore system that respects both our preferences and schedules. For example, I take care of cleaning the toilet every two weeks because I have a specific routine and standards for that task, while he mops the floor every three days because he likes it extra clean. This "territory" approach made it easier to divide chores without stepping on each other's toes. We also found that tasks like clearing trash, which we both dislike, are less of a burden when we take turns. It’s funny how something that seems simple like taking out the trash can become a shared challenge, but acknowledging that together makes it less frustrating. In addition, there's flexibility—when one of us is really tired after work, the other steps in to help out, which keeps things balanced without strict 50/50 enforcement. We’ve learned that in marriage or any serious partnership, chores shouldn’t be a source of contention but rather cooperation. The key takeaway from our experience is communication and appreciation. Regularly saying "Thank you" for small efforts goes a long way in motivating both partners. Knowing the cleanliness level each person expects before getting married helps prevent misunderstandings and build a home both can enjoy. Sharing chores fairly based on personal strengths and dislikes has brought us closer and made daily life more manageable as we prepare for married life together.

Married couple but no joint account?
The reason is simple - we wanted to maximise the amount of interest, cashbacks and rewards for our own accounts & credit cards 😂 We didn't exactly sit down and discuss this prior to marriage (though I would recommend you to do so), it just sort of worked out naturally over time. While

we never fight over chores
a question we get asked pretty often is - how do we split household chores? and the truth is…. we kinda don’t have a system? 🤷🏻‍♀️ besides both of us being mildly OCD, we also have the trusty devices to solve this problem!! as i always say - why do things yourself when you can outsource it to

"1 kid still okay, 2 kids & more must get helper!"
Personally we dont like a idea of a "stranger" living tgt with us - we value our privacy + im a picky person so i prefer handling the kids + cooking + chores ourselves! How we manage: 1. Get all kinds of bots to help! Eg, robovacuum, dishwasher (idk why its uncommon in SG, we love it!),
