1 to 3 teaspoons honey, maple syrup, or agave (to taste)
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon juice, optional
Directions
1. Combine the berries and the sweetener in a small pot. You can make more jam by doubling or tripling the ingredients, just use a larger pot.
2. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, just until the mixture bubbles and the berries break down.
3. Remove from heat.
4. Stir in the chia seeds and lemon juice (if using). 5. Let cool a bit, then transfer to a jar and chill in the fridge. The jam will start setting up right away, but will have the best texture after it chills for 2 or more hours.

... Read moreStrawberry chia seed jam is not only delicious but also a nutritious alternative to store-bought jams, which often contain added sugars and preservatives. This homemade recipe leverages chia seeds, which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, and antioxidants, making your jam both tasty and health-boosting. Using natural sweeteners such as honey, maple syrup, or agave allows you to control the sweetness while avoiding refined sugars.
When preparing the jam, using fresh or frozen fruit works equally well, offering flexibility depending on seasonal availability. The cooking process gently breaks down the strawberries, releasing their natural juices, which combine with the chia seeds to create a gel-like texture without the need for added pectin. The optional lemon juice not only enhances flavor but also stabilizes the jam and adds a subtle tang.
After cooking, it is important to chill the jam for at least two hours to achieve the best consistency, making it spreadable and perfect for your favorite breads. This jam is ideal for elevating breakfast dishes such as buttermilk bread French toast, yogurt bowls, or as a natural topping for desserts. Moreover, the recipe's simplicity allows you to easily customize it by mixing in other berries or fruits, tailoring sweetness levels, or even adding spices like vanilla or cinnamon for a unique touch.
By making your own strawberry chia seed jam, you enjoy a fresh, flavorful, and wholesome addition to your meals that supports a balanced diet and reduces reliance on processed foods.
