My biggest New Year’s resolution/goal is to prioritize my hair and get it to its full potential 🥹
For the past few years my hair has felt thin, greasy, and falls out like crazy. I thought using super high end products would help but now with TikTok I’ve seen amounts of praise for the Pantene Volume Shampoo and their conditioner! I’m going to commit to using the products that are in the photos. Some were bought recently while others I’ve had already (the high end products).
I’ll also be posting any vitamins I take and future meals that will hopefully help my hair.
Disclaimer: I have polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and believe this is causing my hair to fall out. I’ll also be posting about that as well! But I’m hoping that I can enhance the growth by switching up my products and using them correctly.
... Read moreIt's so empowering to take control of your hair health, especially when you're dealing with challenges like thinning, greasiness, and hair fall. I truly believe that understanding the root cause, like PCOS, is the first step towards finding effective solutions. For many, PCOS can lead to hormonal imbalances that manifest as increased oiliness, hair thinning at the temples or crown, and overall hair loss. I've personally found that focusing on a holistic approach, not just topical products, can make a huge difference. This includes exploring supplements that support hormone balance (like inositol or spearmint tea) and adopting an anti-inflammatory diet. It's definitely a marathon, not a sprint, but the progress is so rewarding!
Choosing the right products for thinning or greasy hair, especially when noticing sparse areas, can feel incredibly overwhelming. I totally get the struggle between investing in high-end products and finding gems in more affordable options like Pantene. My personal take? It's not always about the price tag! For thinning hair, I actively look for ingredients like biotin, caffeine, niacinamide, and gentle cleansers that don't strip the scalp. While high-end brands often boast potent formulations, many drugstore options are catching up fast with impressive ingredient lists. For greasiness, clarifying shampoos (used sparingly) and lightweight conditioners are key to maintaining balance without weighing hair down. I often rotate products to see what my hair responds best to. Don't be afraid to mix and match – a targeted high-end treatment paired with an affordable, effective shampoo can be a winning combo!
One of the biggest game-changers for me was truly understanding my hair type. It's not just about straight, wavy, or curly! You also need to think about density (how many individual strands you have), porosity (how well your hair absorbs and retains moisture), and your scalp condition. My hair feeling 'thin' and 'greasy' immediately points to specific needs. If you have fine hair, heavy products will definitely weigh it down. If your scalp is oily, you need gentle, balancing shampoos to avoid over-stripping. For hair fall, focusing on stimulating and nourishing the scalp is paramount. A simple test for porosity: drop a clean, shed strand of hair into a glass of water. If it floats, it's low porosity; if it sinks quickly, it's high porosity; if it floats in the middle, it's normal. This little insight can significantly guide your product choices.
Beyond just shampoos and conditioners, I’m also incorporating daily scalp massages to stimulate blood flow to those sparse areas, and I've switched to a silk pillowcase to reduce friction and breakage overnight. Hydration from within is absolutely crucial too! Drinking plenty of water and eating nutrient-rich foods (think omega-3s, iron, zinc, and vitamins A, C, E) can truly support hair growth and overall health. It's a holistic lifestyle change, not just a quick fix, and I’m committed to documenting every step, including any new vitamins or meals, to see what genuinely works for me on this journey to healthier hair.
