Walking 3.5 million steps

Everyone talks about their New Year’s resolutions, but nobody really talks about the ones they already completed.

When 2025 started, I made myself a simple promise. Walk more than I did in 2024. No shortcuts, no excuses, just consistency.

In 2024, I finished the year at around 3.2 million steps. In 2025, I pushed that to about 3.5 million steps. That came out to over 1,566 miles walked in a single year. That is roughly the distance from Bismarck to Brooklyn. Day to day it does not feel like much, but when you stack it daily, it adds up fast.

Those steps turned into real results. Nearly 194,000 calories burned just from walking alone, not even counting weight lifting. Walking became a habit I did not negotiate with. Early mornings, late nights, busy days, tired days, it did not matter. I walked.

I hit my daily goal on 206 different days this year. That means more than half the year I showed up and did exactly what I said I was going to do, even when motivation was low. Consistency always beats motivation.

My best day was December 15th with 21,961 steps in a single day. Nothing special about the day itself, just effort stacked on effort.

By the end of the year, that consistency put me in the top 3 percent nationwide for steps. That part still feels unreal.

Walking turned into an obsession, but in the healthiest way possible. It helped me lose a lot of weight, improve endurance, and build a strong base that made weight lifting even better. Walking plus lifting completely changed how I look, how I feel, and how I move.

This was not a quick transformation or a short challenge. It was just showing up every day and letting time do the work.

Even right now, as I am writing this, I am literally on a treadmill.
