Definitely missed taking the 29 week bumpie, but that’s ok because this is real life and I’m balancing a million things right now.
🩶Pregnancy Updates:
Lil Sis has been so active. She is getting heavier (apparently she will double in size third trimester, but i already feel huge!). We can see her move, not just feel her, which is so alien dystopian for me. Sleeping has become difficult. Between vivid dreams, hearing voices at night, and waking up to pee… I’m also having the hardest time turning from one side to the other. Oh, and I’m so hungry all the time, which makes sense if she’s planning to grow so much during these last few weeks.
Hitting the 30-week mark feels like a huge milestone, doesn't it? It's like suddenly, the finish line is in sight, even though there's still so much happening! While my original update touched on some of the personal challenges, let's dive a little deeper into what’s typically going on with both baby and mama at this stage, especially as we navigate the intensity of the third trimester. At 30 weeks pregnant, your little one is truly flourishing inside. My doctor mentioned that she's now roughly the size of a large cabbage or a cucumber, weighing around 3 pounds! It's incredible to think about how much growth is packed into these final weeks. They're gaining weight rapidly, and their brain is developing at an astonishing pace, leading to those more coordinated movements we start to feel – and see! That feeling of seeing your baby bump literally ripple as they stretch or hiccup is wild, isn't it? It’s their way of saying hello and practicing all those important movements they’ll need outside the womb, like grasping and sucking. Many babies are also starting to get into a head-down position around now, preparing for their grand entrance. For us mamas, the challenges definitely ramp up. My experience with difficulty sleeping, vivid dreams, and constant hunger seems to be a common theme for many at 30 weeks. For sleeping, I've found that investing in a good body pillow has been a game-changer, helping to support my ever-growing bump and aching hips. Sometimes a warm bath or a gentle prenatal stretching routine before bed can also make a difference. And those vivid dreams? They're totally normal! Experts say it's our brains processing all the immense changes and emotions that come with preparing for a baby. As for the hunger, my strategy has been to keep healthy, protein-rich snacks close by – think nuts, Greek yogurt, or fruit with nut butter – to ensure both me and my little one are getting the fuel we need without constantly reaching for less nutritious options. Beyond what I mentioned earlier, you might also start to notice other third trimester symptoms. Braxton Hicks contractions, those 'practice' tightenings, can become more frequent. While usually harmless, it’s always good to know the difference between them and actual labor contractions. Swelling in the ankles and feet can also become more prominent, especially if you're on your feet a lot. Elevating your legs and staying hydrated can offer some relief. The fatigue, which might have eased in the second trimester, can also make a comeback as your body works harder than ever. Listening to your body and resting when you can is absolutely crucial. It feels like the countdown is really on now, and even with the discomforts, there's so much excitement building. My partner and I have started thinking more seriously about our hospital bag checklist and getting the nursery truly ready. This stage of the third trimester is a beautiful, albeit challenging, journey, and every day brings us closer to meeting our little one. Watching my baby bump grow and feeling her move reminds me that all these little struggles are part of an incredible, unique experience.
