Buying a House While Pregnant
How long does it take to make a nursery? We are going to hustle the heck after Closing, to make this little office space a beautiful nursery.
Buying a house is a huge life event, and doing it while pregnant adds a whole new layer of excitement – and exhaustion! I remember feeling completely overwhelmed yet incredibly motivated. We were 31 weeks along, deep into the third trimester, when we decided it was actually a great time to buy a house. And while it sounds a little crazy, with the right approach, it’s absolutely doable. First, let's talk about the big question: Is it really a good idea to buy a house when you’re expecting? For us, the imminent arrival of our little one was the biggest push. We wanted a stable, beautiful home to bring our baby into. However, it meant planning ahead and being extra strategic about everything. My biggest tip for any expecting parents looking to venture into real estate is to get all your financial ducks in a row before you start truly looking. Understand your budget, get pre-approved for a mortgage, and factor in all those new baby expenses. You’ll thank yourself later when you're not stressing about finances while also counting kicks. When it came to house hunting, our priorities shifted dramatically. We weren't just looking for a house; we were looking for a home for our growing family. Our 'equipment' checklist for expecting parents included things like proximity to good pediatricians, safe neighborhoods, and, of course, space for a nursery. We paid extra attention to layouts, considering how easy it would be to navigate with a stroller, or if a single-story home might be better for those late-night feedings. We looked for a room that could easily transform into a nursery, much like our current office space, which had good bones with its gray walls and white door, perfect for transforming into a cozy haven. The actual process of making an offer and going through closing felt like a marathon in itself. This is where delegation becomes your best friend. My partner took on a lot of the heavy lifting with paperwork and coordinating, allowing me to focus on staying rested and healthy. We made sure our real estate agent understood our timeline and our unique situation. It’s crucial to communicate any potential delays or needs, especially if you’re close to your due date! We joked about having to sign papers from a hospital bed, but thankfully, we managed to close just in time. Once we got the keys, the real nesting frenzy began! Our little office space needed a complete overhaul. We envisioned warm green and mauve paint, a stylish board & batten accent wall to add character, and even a tiny closet build-out for all those adorable baby clothes. Planning out the nursery was a wonderful way to channel all that third-trimester energy into something productive and exciting. Prioritizing the essentials first, like the crib and changing station, helped us get the most critical items ready before focusing on the decor. It’s amazing what you can accomplish with a deadline and a tiny human on the way! Buying a house while pregnant is certainly an adventure, but seeing that little room transform into a nursery makes every single stressful moment worth it. If we can do it at 31 weeks, you can too!
