EP19: The Delusional Dreamer from Bumble

spinning fantasies so big they need their own zip code, and he’s out here thinking he already owns the land. Here’s her story of meeting someone on a dating app:

I matched with someone on Bumble, and he was a pretty smooth talker. I thought, okay, let’s just get to know each other. About four or five days later, he says he wants to meet for dinner.

I said sure.

Then he asks, “What do you want to eat?”

Since it was raining, I suggested, “Maybe hotpot, or anything warm?”

Five minutes later, he replies: “Oh shoot, I forgot I actually have something tonight. I can’t have dinner with you. But I really want to see you… let’s meet after dinner!”

And I really thought he had something important going on. After everything I actually found out, he just didn’t want to pay for dinner HAHAHA

So we meet up after we both eat separately.

We walk for maybe… ten minutes?

Then out of nowhere, he goes:

“Do you believe it? I feel like I’m destined to become a millionaire.”

Completely out of the blue.

He continues, “I just feel it. Next year I’ll definitely get rich. Two years from now, I’ll be living in a big villa.”

Same as me, he's still a poly student. This is our first time meeting. I couldn’t exactly roast him on the spot.

So I asked politely, “Oh? Do you have a plan?” I genuinely thought he had some business idea.

He smiled and said:

“No plan yet. But I’m planning to buy lottery tickets.”

So I tried to steer the conversation back, I asked about his future career plans, since the course he’s studying is completely different from mine.

He said, “Oh that? No plans. Once the money comes from the lottery why would I still work?”

I mean, I have big dreams too but I WORK for them. Not just sit around waiting for the sky to drop a winning ticket. idk man the whole conversation felt like he had no goals, no timeline, no plan… just vibes and lottery numbers.

... Read moreMeeting someone from a dating app like Bumble can sometimes feel like navigating through a maze of unexpected personalities and ambitions. In this episode, the story of encountering a self-proclaimed "delusional dreamer" highlights a common challenge in online dating—dealing with people whose aspirations are more fantasy than reality. It's not uncommon to meet individuals who, like this young man, spin big dreams without concrete plans, relying on luck rather than effort. Dating apps introduce us to a wide range of personalities, from the highly driven to the blissfully hopeful. While ambition is often attractive, ambition without a plan can quickly turn humorous or even frustrating, as demonstrated by the dreamer who believed in winning the lottery as a career plan. This story underscores a valuable insight for anyone navigating the dating scene: it's important to discern whether someone’s dreams are backed by realistic goals and actionable steps. Authenticity and honesty remain key in building meaningful connections. When someone openly admits to lacking a clear plan yet fantasizes about a grand future, it might signal a mismatch in values or readiness for commitment. This tale also reminds us that a dating encounter is more than just charm and smooth talk—it involves understanding compatibility in outlook and lifestyle. Moreover, this encounter serves as a gentle nudge for self-reflection. While dreaming big is a positive trait, pairing those dreams with a solid plan and hard work is vital to bringing them to life. Waiting for fortune, like lottery tickets, rarely replaces the dedication required for success. For those using dating apps, this can be a cautionary tale: pay attention to red flags such as lack of ambition or an unwillingness to take responsibility for one's future. Online dating is a space where many hope to find someone who shares similar goals and values. The story of the "delusional dreamer from Bumble" is a humorous yet insightful reminder that sometimes, what lies beneath the surface matters more than first impressions. It encourages users to look beyond the smooth talk and assess the sincerity and practicality behind someone's dreams. When engaging with others on platforms like Bumble, it is helpful to ask thoughtful questions about their aspirations and plans. This can reveal much about their character and intentions, ensuring that ambitions are more than just dreams but a roadmap to a shared future. Ultimately, this episode not only entertains but also offers a realistic perspective on the expectations we bring into the world of dating apps.

Well if you had matched with me on Bumble I would treated you to a nice lunch or dinner at Sushi Tei Raffles City with choice of cold Sake or Beer. If a man seriously wants to meet a woman, he should make a nice & pleasant impression of himself.
