When you neglect your own wellness, you send an unintended message that your needs are less important, which can lead to burnout and resentment. By setting healthy boundaries and dedicating time to self-care practices—whether it’s mental health days, mindfulness, or simply moments of solitude—you reaffirm your value. Using the phrase I came across, “When you don't put yourself first, you're teaching everyone that you come second,” resonated deeply with me. It highlights the subtle yet powerful impact our self-treatment has on how others perceive and treat us. In practice, self-priority helped me boost my energy, improve mood, and enhance productivity. It also improved my relationships because I was no longer giving from an empty state. Instead, I was offering genuine presence and support, which strengthened bonds rather than weakening them. I recommend starting small: carve out daily moments dedicated solely to yourself, nurture hobbies, practice positive self-talk, and remind yourself that self-love is foundational to your well-being. Remember, self-care allows you to sustainably care for others. The power of self-priority is undeniable—it is a key to balanced living and authentic connection.
