Freeze Epis, Thank Yourself Later
Freezing Epis is one of my favorite kitchen habits.
I make one batch, portion it into cubes, and cook faster all month.
Pop one out, build flavour, done.
If you love efficient, from-scratch cooking, this is a game changer.
Freezing epis is an excellent way to preserve your homemade Haitian seasoning base and have it ready for quick use. After preparing a large batch, I like to scoop the epis into a freezer tray or ice cube tray and freeze it solid. Once frozen, you can pop out the cubes and store them in an airtight container or freezer bag. This method keeps the epis fresh and flavorful for up to 3 months, which is perfect for meal prep. When you want to cook, simply take out a cube or two and add directly to your dish to build flavor instantly. This saves so much time compared to making fresh epis every time. Plus, freezing helps maintain the bright herbal and tangy notes that make epis special. From personal experience, make sure your epis is fully cooled before freezing to prevent condensation and freezer burn. Also, label your containers with the freezing date to keep track of freshness. In the fridge, fresh epis will last about 1 to 2 weeks, but freezing significantly extends its usability. By adopting this freezing habit, you’ll have a flavorful Haitian kitchen staple ready whenever inspiration strikes, making from-scratch cooking both efficient and delicious.
