Marymere Falls Trail 🌿🌲

Marymere Falls

... Read moreOkay, so if you're ever in the Olympic National Park area, you absolutely have to check out the Marymere Falls Trail near Lake Crescent! I recently went, and it was such a refreshing escape into the heart of the Pacific Northwest. It's truly one of those hikes that makes you feel completely immersed in nature without being overly strenuous. Getting there is pretty straightforward. You'll find the trailhead right off Highway 101, near the Lake Crescent Lodge. There's a decent-sized parking lot, but it can fill up quickly, especially on a sunny weekend, so I'd recommend going earlier in the morning if you can. From the parking area, you'll cross under the highway via a cool, short tunnel, which immediately sets the scene for a magical forest adventure. The trail itself is just under a mile each way, making it perfect for families, casual hikers, or anyone looking for a quick dose of natural beauty. What I loved most was how lush and green everything was. The path winds through old-growth forest, with towering firs and cedars, and everything is draped in moss. It felt like stepping into a fairy tale! You'll follow Barnes Creek for a good portion of the hike, and the sound of the water is so soothing. There are a couple of wooden bridges you cross, which add to the charm and offer some lovely photo opportunities. As you get closer to Marymere Falls, the trail starts a gentle ascent with some well-maintained steps. It’s nothing too challenging, but you definitely feel like you're climbing towards something special. And then, there it is! Marymere Falls tumbles down about 90 feet into a tranquil pool surrounded by more vibrant greenery. There are a couple of viewing platforms – one at the base and another a little higher up – giving you different perspectives of the cascade. I spent a good while just watching the water and taking in the cool, misty air. It’s truly breathtaking and provides such a rewarding feeling after the short hike. After enjoying the falls, I highly recommend spending some time around Lake Crescent itself. The lake is famous for its incredibly clear, deep-blue waters, and it’s surrounded by stunning mountains. You can rent kayaks or canoes from Lake Crescent Lodge if you want to get out on the water, or simply relax by the shoreline. There are also picnic areas and other short walking paths around the lake. My personal tip? Grab a coffee or a snack from the lodge and just sit by the water's edge. The serenity is unmatched. Overall, the Marymere Falls Trail is an absolute gem for anyone visiting the Olympic Peninsula. It's an easy, accessible hike that delivers incredible natural beauty, culminating in a beautiful waterfall. Paired with the stunning views of Lake Crescent, it makes for a perfect half-day adventure. Don't forget your camera, some water, and maybe a light jacket – the PNW weather can be unpredictable! This trail really captures the essence of hiking in the Pacific Northwest.
