🇭🇰🇨🇳HK-GZ: Train from HK-Guangzhou

Fuss free and easy smooth process.

🎫 Booked the tickets online on #klook. Do book with your passport number (and not NRIC for singaporeans). By right you can just scan your passport to enter but because I registered with my NRIC so had to ask the office for assistance. Thankfully it was somewhat chill and we managed to pass without much hassle.

🪑 Was pretty crowded! Not much seats for sitting to wait. Station toilets fairly clean.

⏱️ Would recommend to arrive 1.5-2hours before your train timing. The customs part took a bit long cause of the queue. Plus it was our first time so the online/entry permit registration took a while too. But otherwise quite smooth process. Even upon reaching #guangzhou , you can just scan your passport to exit if no issues.

🚝 Train itself was modern and clean! Actually just like Shinkansen lol. Bought the 2nd class was and really was good and comfy enough. Sufficient leg room. No charging ports I think.

🚕 China uses #didi as their ride hail app. Ngl although the app had photo instructions to the pick up point, it still felt hard to find lol. Then midway we came across this pick up point with quite a few staff/guys wearing didi vests, with legit looking staff tags. So they offered to help us book. But charged me x3 more than app price. I think I semi registered it. But I was too tired and succumbed. 🤡.

... Read moreTraveling from Hong Kong to Guangzhou by high-speed rail is truly a convenient and time-saving experience. Based on my journey and common traveler feedback, here are some valuable tips and insights to enhance your trip. Firstly, booking tickets through trusted platforms like Klook is highly recommended, especially using your passport number. This not only speeds up the verification process but also minimizes the risk of delays at immigration checkpoints. As the journey involves crossing from Hong Kong into mainland China, customs procedures can sometimes be time-consuming, especially during peak travel times. To avoid stress, plan to arrive at least 1.5 to 2 hours before your train’s scheduled departure. This buffer allows ample time for queuing, completing online or entry permit registration, and even short breaks. At the departure station, seating can be limited due to crowds, so it’s wise to be prepared to stand or find a quieter spot if you prefer comfort during the wait. Station facilities, including toilets, are generally clean and well-maintained, which is a relief for travelers concerned about hygiene. The high-speed train itself impresses with its modern design and comforts reminiscent of Japan’s Shinkansen. Opting for second-class offers sufficient legroom and a pleasant environment to relax during the approximately 2.5-hour direct ride to Guangzhou. However, one downside is the absence of charging ports onboard, so charge your devices beforehand. Upon arrival in Guangzhou, getting a taxi or ride-hail service like DiDi is straightforward but be cautious. There have been instances where unofficial staff wearing DiDi uniforms charge travelers significantly more than the app price. If you’re tired or unfamiliar with the area, these offers might seem tempting, but using the official app or authorized pick-up points usually ensures fair pricing. Finally, if you’re traveling for the first time or during festivals, keep an eye on train schedules and last entry times at the departure gates (generally 15 minutes before departure). Also, familiarize yourself with the immigration regulations printed at the station to avoid any surprises. In summary, this high-speed rail connection is an efficient and pleasant way to travel between Hong Kong and Guangzhou, given some preparation and awareness. From ticket booking and arrival timing to train comfort and arrival logistics, following these insights can help you enjoy a seamless journey.
