To the first kid to make me a god mother at 14 years old…. No lie baby we winged it 😮💨
I made a vow to my bestfriendddd in 2010 that I would accept that God mommy role, you were OURS & we would figure it out 🫶🏾
From doing hair through high school and going to college using my college refunds to make sure you had everything you needed💕
Never taking credit from your amazing village and phenomenal parents for ensuring you had the best possible life, just grateful to have been apart of such a solid village. 💯
A God parent is more than a title, a name, it’s an honor and a duty to ensure IF or WHEN in need whether physical, financial, emotional, mental, good or bad you’re there! To ensure that if the time ever came that you had to fully step up you’d be ready to.
The second name tatted on me, a bond that can never be tainted nor broken. I love you my black Barbie, here’s to the last lap 💕🤝🏾❤️🫶🏾 we have a high schooler 👏🏾👏🏾
... Read moreIt's truly surreal to look back at photos from when I first became a godmother at just 14 years old, and then compare them to today, with my amazing goddaughter now also 14 and heading into high school. The first OCR image perfectly captures that youthful embrace – a young woman embracing a smiling young girl. Back then, it felt like a huge responsibility, and honestly, a bit daunting! I was just a kid myself, winging it, as I mentioned in my original post. But the vow I made to my best friend in 2010 wasn't just words; it was a commitment to nurturing this incredible bond for life.
Over these past 10+ years, our relationship has evolved in the most beautiful ways. In the beginning, it was about being a fun, slightly older friend who could give her extra hugs and play games. Now, as she's grown into a beautiful teenage girl, our conversations have deepened. The OCR mentions a photo of a woman with glasses and a teenage girl, both smiling and embracing – that’s us, capturing how far we've come. We talk about school, friends, future dreams, and even the everyday teenage dramas. I've gone from braiding her hair for school to now offering advice on navigating high school friendships and finding her own path. It's a different kind of support, but just as fulfilling.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this '10 years apart' journey has been seeing her grow into such a confident, vibrant young woman. It’s not just about what I’ve given her; it’s about what she’s taught me. She’s challenged me to be more patient, more understanding, and to always lead with love. Our bond, as the OCR highlights, is an 'enduring bond,' and it really feels that way. From those early days of figuring things out together, to now cheerleading her through her high school years, every milestone feels like a shared victory.
For anyone considering taking on the role of a godparent, especially at a young age, I'd say embrace the journey! It won't always be easy, but the love and connection you build are priceless. It's about showing up, being present, and adapting to their changing needs. Whether it’s financial support for college, a shoulder to cry on during tough times, or just celebrating the small wins, being there is what truly matters. The text in the OCR about 'three individuals, two women and a young girl' posing for a selfie reminds me of the village that helped raise her – and I'm just so grateful to be a part of it. This isn’t just a title; it’s a living, breathing relationship that continues to enrich my life every single day. Here’s to many more decades of love and laughter with my amazing goddaughter!
