Last-minute tips for success in your exams! 📑

I just passed a google cert exam! This exam requires 20-40 hours of self-study, so I am very proud of myself 💖 Usually I can do more aesthetic notes than this, but since I was self studying and not in lectures, they ended up a bit messier 😅

On the day of the exam, you might feel nervous! Here are my tips for success in that final stage:

⛅ In the morning ⛅

1. Go through your notes with a highlighter, getting any remaining terms you don't have memorized!

2. You may want to go through twice, for the top 5-10 terms you EXTRA need to get in

3. ONLY study these final details, instead of re-reading over and over the stuff you already knew anyways.

4. do not cram - don't pick up a whole new chapter/section morning of unless you absolutely have to.

🚶‍♀️An hour before🚶‍♀️

If you can, take a walk shortly before the exam. This helps with brain processing and anxiety.

Also, this is definitely pseudoscience, but I like to listen to 'good grades' subliminal during the walk because it boosts my confidence!

📎 During the exam 📎

Use less than half of your exam time making sure that you have at least attempted every single question. Mark the difficult ones.

Once you have seen all the questions, at least you know what you are dealing with, and can continue to manage your time accordingly

🧠 Before you finish! 🧠

Even if you are tired, and even if you read the question before on your first attempt... read SO slowly and carefully! Look for tiny words in the question that change the whole meaning. Each time you review the answer you put in, you will feel more confident about your decision.

❓🗨️ Do you have a routine for exam day? What are your tips? 🗨️❓

... Read morePassing an exam, especially a challenging one like a Google certification, isn't just about what you do on exam morning. What you do the night before, and even how you approach the 'paper status' during the exam, can make a huge difference! I remember countless times dreading an exam 'tomorrow is my paper,' feeling like there wasn't enough time. Over the years, I've developed a routine that really helps, especially those critical hours leading up to the test. The Night Before: Smart Study, Not Cramming (Addressing "night study exam") When it comes to 'night study exam,' less is often more. Instead of trying to learn new concepts or reread entire chapters, focus on consolidation. I usually spend about 1-2 hours revisiting my summary notes. I’d specifically go over high-priority topics like key differences between 'compute types' or the architecture of 'load balancing' mechanisms if I know those are heavy hitters for my Google Cloud Associate exam. The goal isn't deep understanding at this point, but refreshing what's already there. Beyond studying, this is prime time for practical preparation. Lay out your exam essentials: ID, pens, calculator, water bottle, and any permitted snacks. Eliminate any last-minute scramble. I also make sure to set multiple alarms and plan my route to the exam center. And perhaps most importantly: get enough sleep. Seriously! A well-rested brain performs far better than one that's been crammed full of information at 3 AM. Try to switch off all screens an hour before bed. Exam Morning: Fuel Your Brain and Body While the original post covers great morning tips, I'd emphasize a good breakfast. Something nourishing, not too heavy, to keep your energy stable. A quick walk or light stretching can also do wonders for calming nerves and getting blood flowing to your brain, making you feel more alert and ready for the 'paper' ahead. Instead of just relying on subliminals, I often do a quick mental visualization exercise, picturing myself confidently answering questions. It sounds simple, but it really helps build a positive mindset. During the Exam: Mastering the 'Paper Status' Once you get your exam paper, take a deep breath. Before diving into the first question, I always take 1-2 minutes to quickly scan the entire paper. This gives me a mental 'paper status' – I identify the easy questions, mark the harder ones, and get a general sense of the question distribution. For my Google cert, seeing topics like 'Firebase' or 'App Engine' would immediately tell me which sections might require more thought or where I could gain quick points. This initial scan helps with time management. It allows you to strategically allocate your time, ensuring you don't spend too long on a single difficult question early on. If you encounter a complex question, especially one involving detailed 'infrastructure' or 'instance group' configurations, don't panic. Make a quick note, move on, and come back to it with fresh eyes. Sometimes, another question later in the exam might even jog your memory. Finally, if it’s your 'tomorrow last exam,' remember to give it your all, but also know that it’s okay to be done and relax afterwards! Every exam is a learning experience, regardless of the outcome. These strategies have consistently helped me manage my anxiety and perform my best when it truly matters.
