Timelapse vs reality ⏳ draw with me!

As an artist, there's something incredibly rewarding about watching a piece come to life, especially when it's sped up in a time lapse drawing! It's like magic, seeing all those countless hours of effort condensed into just a few minutes. For this particular art piece, I wanted to share the initial sketching phase, getting ready for painting with a solid foundation. Creating a pencil drawing timelapse allows me to not only review my own process but also to share the journey with others in a digestible way. It involved many minutes of careful lines and shading, but seeing it at real-time speed would be a bit much! Editing down a 17-minute recording to under a minute really highlights the progression and keeps it engaging. It’s a fantastic way to showcase the evolution of an illustration from a blank page to a detailed sketch. One of the most satisfying parts of my art timelapse drawing process, and truly my favorite, is working with the kneaded eraser. It might seem like a simple tool, but it's invaluable for refining a sketch. Unlike traditional erasers that can smudge or wear down the paper, the kneaded eraser is fantastic because you can mold it to specific shapes. I love how it gently rolls over and lightens the graphite without leaving residue, perfect for lifting excess pencil marks or creating subtle highlights without damaging the paper texture. It’s a gentle touch that makes all the difference, especially when you're preparing a detailed sketchbook time lapse for a future painting. When using a kneaded eraser, I often shape it into a point for fine details or flatten it to pat over larger areas to uniformly lighten the entire sketch. This technique is crucial before moving on to paint, as it ensures that the underlying pencil lines don't show through too much, especially with translucent mediums. It’s a key step in my process, ensuring the sketch is clean and ready for the next layer. After finalizing the pencil sketch and cleaning it up with the eraser, the next exciting stage is getting ready for painting! For this piece, I'll be using gouache, which is an opaque watercolor. Gouache is fantastic because it allows for vibrant, flat colors and can be layered, offering a different feel than transparent watercolors. The refined pencil sketch acts as a perfect guide, providing the structure without dictating the final color choices too rigidly.
