Jesus said to His disciples, "You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit; fruit that will last." If it were up to us, we would not choose to follow Him. As fallen human beings, we are willful and rebellious by nature. Paul says that God chose us so that we might make Him known. "He has chosen you because our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. And you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit, so that you became examples to all in Macedonia and Achaia; your faith toward God has gone out, so that we do not need to say anything." (1 THESSALONIANS 1:5-6, 8)
