One strategy that helped me was focusing on daily self-reflection—asking myself how I feel about certain commitments instead of just agreeing to please others. This practice allowed me to recognize when I was sacrificing my own needs and made it easier to prioritize my emotions. It’s important to remember that honoring your feelings doesn’t mean you become selfish; instead, it helps you build healthier relationships based on mutual respect. I also found the phrase “choose your own feelings over others’ expectations” powerful. It reminds me that while social harmony is great, it should never come at the expense of my mental well-being. Growth happens when we focus inward, reflect honestly, and gradually shift our focus from external approval to internal acceptance. Keep in mind, this journey takes time and patience, but every step towards embracing your authentic self is a win worth celebrating.
