Warm up is IMPORTANT

I used to overlook the importance of a good warm-up until I got injured. Comparing my routine before and after the injury really opened my eyes. Initially, I would do very light stretching and minimal joint movements, which didn’t prepare my muscles and tendons adequately for the intense workout. After my injury, I adopted a more structured warm-up that includes dynamic stretches, gradual cardio elevation like brisk walking or light jogging, and mobility drills specific to the activity I plan to do. This approach has significantly reduced muscle stiffness and joint pain, and I feel more energized going into my workouts. Importantly, it helps me avoid disruptions caused by injuries, which can be demoralizing and set back progress. I recommend spending at least 10-15 minutes warming up, integrating movements that mimic the workout to come but at a lower intensity. For example, if you’re going to run, start with leg swings and hip circles before progressing to slow jogging and strides. Always listen to your body during warm-ups—any unusual discomfort or sharp pain should prompt you to pause and reassess your routine to prevent damage. Incorporating these tips ensures not just better performance but also long-term joint and muscle health, making your training sustainable and enjoyable.
