It was a grind but so worth 😭

These are all things I wish I had used when I started out, would have prob saved a tonnn of time 😭

People like to complicate Japanese by telling u you need to learn vocab, kanji, grammar, pitch accents, stroke orders…. It’s not actually all that complicated. I would just get started and keep things simple. What matters more is showing up everyday and learning/practicing something new!

Don’t make the same mistakes I did 😭 i spent about a year memorizing like 2000 kanji, their readings and meanings. But even then I couldnt read a real book lol. It turns out remembering Kanji and being literate are two completely different things. So I think the best way instead is to just jump

I’ve been studying for prob 12 months now. i can read some basic books but still struggle with Kanji. anyway after I’m done I wanna learn some other too like KO and ZH 😎

My main goal lately has been to get good enough to where I can read the original Hunter x Hunter manga without needing to translate anything, like at all ☺️

Getting home from work and thinking about study would make me go “ughhh” but now it’s straightforward af 😆

To be honest Japanese isn't hard at all! You just need dedication and a reason/goal for why you're learning it - for example, I wanted to be able to read my favourite manga - Hunter x Hunter :D

Learning Kanji individually is a waste of time. imagine learning "sub" and "specere" (which are latin words) just so you can use the word "suspicious". That's what learning each kanji individually is like

A lot of people have been asking me how long they should study each day and to be honest it entirely depends on how fast you want to become fluent in Japanese. Studying just 10 mins a day, you'll prob take 5-10 years if you study 8 hours a day you can def become fluent in a year

People usually struggle because they don't follow this advice and get overwhelmed by a messy schedule ✨
