I walked away from everything & I chose myself instead. I used to think I had it all figured out, but somewhere along the way I stopped recognizing the girl in the mirror. I was exhausted. I was anxious. I was shrinking myself to survive in a life that no longer fit.
I worked my ass off to become a lawyer. It took years and years of hard work & sleepless nights to accomplish what I accomplished, but one day I woke up and decided that wasn’t the path I wanted to be on anymore. So I quit my job. People thought I was crazy. A part of me thought I was crazy too. It was terrifying. I cried. I doubted myself. A part of me weirdly felt guilty for wanting more when I had what so many people saw as “enough.” But the truth is, it wasn’t enough for me anymore. So I left.
Now? I get to meet people I never would have crossed paths with. I work with brands the little high school version of me would scream over. And I get to play dress up for a living.
Why am I saying this? I’m saying this because if you’re in the thick of it and feeling stuck in a version of your life that no longer feels like yours just know that it’s okay to outgrow the dream you once had. It’s okay to want something different. It’s okay to choose yourself, even when it’s scary.
Because I’ve been there. In fact it’s almost been three years to the date since I quit my job as a tax lawyer after five years practicing to pursue this dream of mine full time. And that decision? That decision was easily one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. #motivationalvideo #quitmyjob #startingover #motivationalquotes #quittingmyjob #dreamlife
Choosing to prioritize your own happiness and fulfillment over societal expectations can be one of the most liberating decisions you’ll ever make. Many individuals, like me, reach a pivotal moment where they must confront the reality that their current path, despite its apparent success, is not fulfilling. This is especially true for those in high-pressure professions where the stakes can feel insurmountable. The fear of judgment from others can be overwhelming when making such a significant life change. However, recognizing that personal happiness is paramount to overall well-being is crucial. In my experience, the journey towards authenticity is filled with challenges, but it's essential to remember that embracing your true self can lead to unparalleled joy. Reflecting on my decision to leave my job as a tax lawyer, I'm reminded of the weight that lifted off my shoulders as I stepped into a life driven by passion. The connections I've made and the experiences I've encountered in my new path have greatly enriched my life. For anyone feeling trapped in a life that doesn’t resonate with them, I encourage you to embrace the unknown and trust in your ability to find your true south. Remember, it’s never too late to redefine your aspirations and pursue a life that brings you joy. No one needs to live by someone else’s definition of success. The first step is often the hardest, but it can lead to a world brimming with opportunities you've always dreamed of.
