Come on TD... I keep being denied access to your bank ATM because you dont want to have security.

Don't tell me why its happening, I was born in the area, raised here and I've been a part of the homeless population here off and on during the 2010s. The SIS location is a large part of the problem but its only because of police dumping people in places they dont know with folks they should not be left alone around... I am a success story here, and most of my graduating class is dead right now. I was born 1996. These are NEW issues. I worked at the heritage museum you literally CAN NOT lie to me and tell me this is old news...

... Read moreLiving in Toronto and having experienced both the struggles of homelessness and recovery, I've noticed firsthand how access to essential services like banking can become a significant barrier. TD Bank's ATM access denials appear to be influenced not just by bank policies but also by the broader social environment around locations such as the SIS site. Many individuals are displaced by law enforcement into unfamiliar areas, causing community tensions and complicating safety measures. From my perspective, banks need to balance security with accessibility. While it’s crucial to protect customers and ATMs, denying access also risks pushing vulnerable populations further to the margins. Simple security upgrades, like improved surveillance or staffing, could help bridge this gap without excluding community members who rely on these services. Moreover, the issue reflects larger systemic challenges in Toronto, where social services, policing, and community support sometimes fail to align effectively. Understanding that many affected people are individuals like myself—residents born and raised here, facing new challenges in recent years—adds depth to the conversation. These are not distant or old problems but current realities impacting real lives. Engaging local communities, including social workers and former homeless individuals, in dialogue about ATM access and safety can foster solutions everyone benefits from. The heritage and resilience of neighborhoods should be respected by financial institutions when designing their security policies. In conclusion, TD Bank and others operating within areas with complex social dynamics should consider tailored approaches to ATM security and access. Rather than a blanket denial, thoughtful intervention can enhance safety while supporting community inclusion and dignity.
