... Read moreLiving abroad often brings surprises when it comes to the cost of familiar foods from home. For many Bangladeshis living in Canada, buying traditional snacks like Chanachur can feel expensive compared to prices back in Bangladesh. For instance, a 500-gram packet of Chanachur can cost around 4 Canadian dollars, which is roughly 700 Bangladeshi Taka. This notable price difference is due to factors like import costs, shipping fees, and local taxes, which all add up. When I moved to Canada, I was eager to find my favorite traditional snacks, craving the distinctive spices and textures I grew up with. However, I quickly realized that products such as 'Crave Desi Ghee' and 'Jhāl Chanachur' were not only more expensive but also sometimes different in taste or packaging to meet local regulations and preferences. The brands I found included various options like 'MIKTÓ TIKO' and 'Bocadillo Picante Mixto,' which added interesting variety but still reminded me of home. Adjusting to these price differences required some creativity. I began sourcing spices separately and making my own mixtures to emulate the authentic flavors. Shopping at local ethnic stores or co-ops helped me find more affordable options and connect with other community members who understood these challenges. I also discovered that online shopping platforms sometimes offered better deals or bulk purchases, though shipping times varied. For other expats or travelers, understanding these price differences is crucial for budgeting and managing expectations. While it might be tempting to rely on imports, experimenting with homemade versions or trying local alternatives can be rewarding. Sharing these experiences helps build a supportive community where cultural tastes continue to thrive despite geographic distances. In essence, the change in location affects prices significantly, especially for culturally specific snacks like Chanachur. Being aware and adaptable while cherishing familiar flavors enriches life overseas and maintains a connection to one's roots.

I picked the iPad 11 (A16) over the iPad Air (M2)
Upgraded from my 4-year-old iPad 8 and didn’t want to go overboard, so the A16 chip version gave me everything I use daily—without the premium price tag. Same screen size, Touch ID, Apple Pencil support, and sleek design—all at ~40% less than the Air (M2). It felt like an obvious, practical choice
