My little dancer graduates today ❤️

I’m a mother of three, and I truly believe every child is unique, each gifted in their own way. My eldest daughter and youngest son are more academically inclined, so naturally, people assumed it runs in the genes. But my middle child’s journey has been different since the start.

When she was just 4, her kindergarten teacher told me she couldn’t even count to 20 and suggested it was a concern. In my heart, I thought, “Chill… she’s only four.” At 6, she was referred for a dyslexia test. Thankfully, she wasn’t dyslexic — just a slower learner. I believed that was no big deal; everyone learns at their own pace.

Still, I knew she felt pressured when compared to her siblings. She wasn’t academically inclined, but she had something else — a passion for dance. I decided to support her wholeheartedly, helping her build a strong foundation.

At 12, she dreamed of entering the School of the Arts Singapore (SOTA). I knew she’d face academic challenges there, but she was determined. Against all odds, she worked harder than ever, surprising us with an amazing PSLE result that got her in.

But by Year 3, the struggle of balancing academics and long hours of dance began to drain her. She barely passed to Year 4, and I saw her passion fading. It broke my heart. So, I made the tough call — she would leave SOTA after Year 4 and join another dance school, aiming at least for a diploma if O-Levels weren’t possible.

Today, she stands as a proud graduate in Dance. She is still that same girl who lights up the stage, and I thank God for turning a challenging journey into a beautiful, unexpected ending. 💖

To all parents — our children’s paths may not be straight, but with love, faith, and guidance, they will find their way. 🌟

I witnessed firsthand how my daughter's heartbeat would race before performances—a mix of nerves and excitement that every dancer learns to manage. This physical response actually primes the body and mind to focus once the music starts, helping performers deliver their best. For parents navigating a similar path, supporting your child's unique talents while accommodating their academic needs is crucial. Encouraging breaks, maintaining open communication, and celebrating small victories can make a huge difference. Also, exploring specialized dance programs or diploma options, like those offered at LASALLE, can provide tailored education that respects artistic ambitions alongside academics. My daughter’s name even appeared on her diploma as Chloe Lee, marking a proud milestone for us. Remember, every child’s journey is different. Their passions might not align with conventional expectations, but with love, patience, and the right guidance, they can shine brightly in their chosen field. Witnessing my daughter's transformation from a hesitant young learner into a confident dancer has been a heartwarming reminder that success comes in many forms.
