I feel like a failure.

My baby is 1 month old now, and ever since she was 3 weeks old she's been really fussy about breastfeeding. She won't latch well, she keeps crying, kicking, and arching her back if I try to get her to latch. She will only breastfeed when she wakes up at night or when she's just woken up and in a good mood because sometimes she wakes up hungry and there's no way to breastfeed her for more than 5-10 minutes when she is and I have to squeeze the milk out for her myself cause she's not latching properly.

Has anyone else gone through this and things got better? Are there just some babies who hate breastfeeding?

... Read moreBreastfeeding can be a challenging experience for many new parents, especially when infants refuse to latch properly or show signs of distress during feeding times. It's important to remember that you are not alone in this journey. Many mothers find that their babies, like yours, may be fussy for various reasons, such as discomfort, tiredness, or simply being overwhelmed. To improve latching, consider trying different breastfeeding positions or using breast pumps to help your baby become accustomed to feeding. Skin-to-skin contact can also create a calming environment, promoting better latching when the baby is less fussy. Consulting with a lactation specialist can provide tailored strategies to improve the situation. Furthermore, it’s essential to pay attention to hunger cues, which can help you time the feedings better. Sometimes, babies may prefer to feed when they are more relaxed, such as right after waking. Also, engaging with online communities and forums, such as those on Lemon8, can offer valuable support and advice from experienced parents who have navigated similar challenges. Your feelings of frustration are valid, but with patience and support, breastfeeding can become a healthier and more enjoyable experience for both you and your baby.
