... Read moreOkay, so you guys know Florida is usually all sunshine and beaches, right? Well, today was definitely NOT one of those days! I woke up and felt that crisp air, and my first thought was, 'Is this really Florida?!' It was genuinely a cold day here, and I had to layer up big time. For those of us used to flip-flops year-round, this kind of weather always throws us for a loop.
I mean, seriously, who expects to be pulling out their heaviest gear in the Sunshine State? But here I am, rocking my favorite grey hoodie under a camouflage jacket, with a dark green vest for extra warmth – just like you see in the pic! Even had my trusty baseball cap on to keep the chill off my head. And yeah, the beard definitely helps a little too – a natural insulator, right? Even though I was inside my vehicle for part of the day, that persistent chill still managed to creep in. It’s funny because Floridians have a different definition of 'cold' compared to our friends up north, but when it dips below 50°F, we're all reaching for the blankets and hot coffee.
It made me think about how quickly you adapt to the warmth here. When a cold front swoops in, it feels even colder because your body isn't used to it. I've heard some people say they just crank up the heater and stay indoors, but for me, especially with my blue-collar routine, you still have to get out there and get things done. So, it's all about strategic layering. I usually start with a good base layer, then a comfy hoodie, and for days like today, that extra jacket and vest are non-negotiable. It's about staying practical while still being able to move around comfortably.
And what's a cold Florida day without some hot chocolate or a strong cup of coffee? It’s funny, you see everyone suddenly embracing scarves and beanies that have been sitting in their closets for months. The whole #floridawinter vibe is real, and it's always a topic of conversation. You’ll hear people complaining about the 'freezing' 48 degrees, while simultaneously posting pictures of their iced lattes because, well, it's still Florida! It's a strange mix of trying to embrace the 'winter' while holding onto our sunny state identity.
This kind of weather reminds me that even in paradise, you get a curveball now and then. It humbles you and makes you appreciate those truly warm, sunny days even more when they return. It's also a good reminder to be prepared, even when you think you won't need it. A little foresight goes a long way, especially when you're caught off guard by a cold snap.
I love connecting with you all and sharing these little slices of my life. It’s these unexpected moments that make living here so interesting. So, if you're in Florida today, stay warm out there! And if you're somewhere actually cold, send us some tips on how you survive the real winter! What are your go-to cold weather essentials, even for a mild chill? Let me know in the comments!
