What happen when you quit sugar?

Hello friends! 🍋

I know, sugar is pretty good. All the treats and snacks are amazing, but for years, I've heard about the potential benefits of cutting sugar from my diet.

I always found excuses to delay the process, but finally, I decided to committed myself to a 30-day sugar detox.

The first week is awful, I’m not going to lie. Quitting sugar is DIFFICULT. Cravings hit me like the world was ending, especially during moments when I felt stress or anxious.

If you want to try a sugar detox, making sure you are ready to motivate yourself and you have people around you that will help you too.

Around the second week, I started noticing a significant increase in my energy levels.

You have no idea how much energy you body needs to process sugar, but if you are not eating sugar, all the energy is yours!

My gut health improved. I could spend more time working out, I felt less tired or falling asleep during the day… It’s truly amazing!

When I got to third week, I could see changes in my skin. The horrible breakouts that I’ve been dealing at least once a month disappeared.

I could really appreciate fruits and the natural sugar they have. The strawberries are much more delicious, bananas are pretty sweet and honey too.

Now I can sleep better, my body feels lighter and my anxiety is improving.

I’m not going to cut sugar 100%, I feel it’s a happy part of my life too when I go out and eat ice cream or whatever, but I’m trying to keep my body clean during the weeks and just getting some sugar during the weekends.

... Read moreWhen I first decided to embark on my 30-day sugar detox, I honestly didn't know what to expect. Like many of you, I'd heard all the buzz about the benefits of quitting sugar, but the thought of giving up my favorite treats felt daunting. The first week was absolutely brutal – the sugar cravings were intense, and I felt sluggish and irritable. It truly tested my willpower, and I realized how much I relied on sugar for comfort and quick energy. But I pushed through, reminding myself of the 'before and after' stories I'd read, hoping for my own transformation. One of the most surprising and welcome changes I noticed, particularly around the third week, was how much my skin after quitting sugar improved. My face, which often suffered from random breakouts despite a consistent skincare routine and drinking plenty of water, started to clear up dramatically. It wasn't just fewer pimples; my complexion looked brighter, less dull, and even more hydrated. I truly believe that cutting out added sugars reduced inflammation in my body, which directly translated to healthier, happier skin. This was a huge motivator for me, as I'd always struggled with finding a solution for those persistent breakouts. Beyond the visible changes, the shift in my energy levels was incredible. The OCR mentioned "I GOT A BOOST OF ENERGY!", and that's an understatement. Before, I'd experience those afternoon slumps, needing coffee or a sugary snack to push through. After just two weeks, I felt a sustained boost of energy throughout the day. My workout resistance significantly improved, and I no longer felt that heavy, tired feeling right after meals. It was like my body had unlocked a new, cleaner fuel source. And oh, the sleep! I always had trouble falling asleep and staying asleep, tossing and turning for hours. But after quitting sugar, I could "SLEEP SO MUCH BETTER." I found myself drifting off more easily and waking up feeling genuinely rested, not groggy. This positive cycle of better sleep leading to more energy and less reliance on sugar was truly transformative. Another fascinating side effect was how my taste buds changed. The OCR highlighted "SWEET FOODS STARTED TO TASTE EVEN SWEETER," and it's so true! Fruits like strawberries and bananas, which I always enjoyed, suddenly tasted intensely sweet and satisfying. It taught me to appreciate natural sugars and helped me manage my cravings much more effectively. Now, when I do have something sweet (usually a planned weekend treat), it often feels overly sweet, which helps me regulate my intake naturally. For anyone considering a '21 day no sugar challenge' or a longer detox, my biggest advice is to prepare mentally and physically. Stock your pantry with healthy, whole foods. Find substitutes for your usual sugary culprits – for me, it was fruit, nuts, and plain yogurt. And don't underestimate the power of support; having friends or family who understand your goal can make a huge difference during those tough first few days. This journey has shown me that quitting sugar is good for you in so many ways – from clearer skin and boundless energy to better sleep and a more balanced mood. It's not about perfection, but about finding a sustainable way to feel your best.
