Making mee sua for my toddler’s birthday! 🎉

My toddler just turned 4 🥹🥳

This year, I decided to do something a little different.

We don’t usually have the habit of eating mee sua on birthdays but I thought it would be meaningful to start this tradition.

In Chinese culture, mee sua symbolizes good health, good fortune, and prosperity 🥰

I prepared a comforting bowl with noodles, minced meat, a hard boiled egg, and some veggies. For the soup base, I used Double Happiness’ chicken powder, which adds a natural, comforting flavour without overpowering the dish.

It’s made with no added salt, sugar, MSG, or additives, making it suitable for babies from 6m+.

Simple, clean & nourishing, it’s so versatile and truly a must-have in my kitchen!

... Read moreMee sua is more than just a tasty noodle dish; it carries deep cultural significance, especially for birthdays. Traditionally, eating mee sua symbolizes longevity and good luck, making it a thoughtful choice for celebrating milestones like a toddler’s birthday. When preparing mee sua for young children, I found it's important to keep the ingredients simple and nutritious. Avoiding MSG and additives, as with Double Happiness’ chicken powder, ensures the dish is gentle on little stomachs. Adding minced meat, egg, and fresh veggies provides balanced nutrition while keeping the flavors mild yet satisfying. For parents considering starting this tradition, the process is straightforward and can be adapted to your toddler’s tastes and dietary needs. The broth can be made with homemade chicken stock or mild seasoning powders with no added salt or sugar. This approach ensures the meal is both comforting and safe for babies as young as six months. Personally, incorporating mee sua into birthday celebrations has brought a new layer of meaning and connection to our cultural roots. It’s wonderful to share this special tradition with my child, hopeful it brings the blessings of good health and happiness for years to come. To explore more toddler-friendly noodle recipes or variations on traditional Chinese dishes, I recommend experimenting with simple additions and mild flavors suited to your child’s preferences. Celebrating with culturally rich yet gentle meals like mee sua creates lasting memories and nourishes both body and spirit.

The mental load of parenting is hard to explain because so much of it happens quietly. Most of the time, nobody sees it. But if you’ve ever felt exhausted before the day has even begun, it doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong. It might simply mean you’re carrying a lot. A gentle reminder to
