Mobile Lightroom Settings to Nail a Cinematic Edit

Palais Royal has been on my photoshoot bucket list forever, and I’m still squealing over these final shots! 😍✨ The cinematic, editorial aesthetic I went for in editing truly highlights how striking this location is—it feels straight out of a movie.

.

Want to transform your photos into cinematic masterpieces too? 🎥 Here are 7 Lightroom settings to add mood, depth, and drama—perfect for urban scenes or bold portraits:

.

🎞 1. Tone Curve Adjustment:

Create subtle "S" curves (RGB + individual Red, Green, Blue channels) for contrast and nuanced color balance.

.

🎨 2. Split Toning:

Shadows: Deep teal (Hue ~200, Sat ~20).

Highlights: Warm orange (Hue ~35, Sat ~15).

The classic teal-and-orange combo adds cinematic depth!

.

🌫 3. Dehaze + Contrast:

Dehaze: +15 to +25

Contrast: +10 to +20

These settings bring out bold details and sharpen the overall look.

.

🌈 4. Vibrance Over Saturation:

Vibrance: +20 to +30

Enhance colors subtly without oversaturation for a film-like quality.

.

✨ 5. Grain + Vignetting:

Grain: Amount ~25, Size ~20 for that textured, vintage vibe.

Vignette: Darken edges (-10 to -20) to draw attention to your subject.

.

😍 6. Lower Clarity (Selective):

Brush over skin with reduced Clarity (-10 to -20) for a soft, glowing effect—perfect for portraits.

.

🖤 7. Blacks & Whites Boost:

Blacks: -10 to -20 for depth.

Whites: +10 to +20 for bright, polished highlights.

.

Pro Tip: Adjust exposure and white balance to match your scene. Cool tones = night shots 🌌, warm tones = golden hour 🌅.

.

So, what’s your favorite TV show or movie set in Paris? 🇫🇷 I’m a total sucker for Emily in Paris and the Gossip Girl Paris episodes—pure magic! 💕 Let me know yours below! 👇

... Read moreHey photo friends! So many of you asked about getting that perfect cinematic vibe and smooth skin right from your phone. It's totally doable with Lightroom Mobile, and I'm spilling a few more secrets beyond my initial tips to help you nail that professional finish. Mastering Smooth Skin in Lightroom Mobile The original tip for 'LOWER CLARITY: reduce clarity (-10 - -20) on subject for soft skin tones' is super effective, but let's dive deeper into how I get that flawless look without making my photos look fake. After selecting the brush tool, apply the reduced clarity selectively to the skin areas. This is crucial—don't apply it everywhere! I also like to gently reduce the 'Texture' slider, usually around -10 to -20, on those same brushed areas. This works wonders for softening fine lines and pores. For an extra smooth finish, especially in lower light photos, don't forget the 'Noise Reduction' panel. A slight boost there can really clean up the image. Remember, the goal is natural softness, not a blurry mess, so go easy on those sliders! Beyond the 7 Settings: Shooting for Cinematic Success on iPhone While Lightroom Mobile works magic, the foundation for a cinematic photo starts before you even open the app. When shooting with my iPhone, I always look for golden hour light (that warm, soft glow is inherently cinematic!) or moody, overcast conditions. Pay attention to your composition—think about leading lines, framing, and the rule of thirds. Even simple actions like getting low to the ground for a dramatic angle can make a huge difference. If your iPhone has Portrait mode, use it! That natural bokeh helps separate your subject and adds a beautiful, film-like depth of field that's hard to replicate later. Tweaking the "Numbers" for Your Unique Scene The specific numbers (like Hue 200 for shadows or +25 for Grain) I shared are fantastic starting points, but every photo is unique, and sometimes you need to adjust. For example, my 'TONE CURVE' adjustments might vary slightly if I want a deeper, moodier look (pulling the bottom left point down a bit more) versus a more faded, vintage feel (lifting the bottom left slightly). With 'SPLIT TONING', don't be afraid to experiment with different hues. Maybe a subtle purple in the shadows for a sci-fi vibe or a warmer orange in the highlights for a dreamy sunset scene. The key is to trust your eye. Drag those sliders and see what feels right for your specific image and the story you want to tell. My Quick Cinematic Workflow Reminder To keep my editing consistent and efficient, I follow a general workflow: First, basic global adjustments (exposure, white balance). Then, I move to the 'TONE CURVE' for contrast and color balance. Next, color grading with 'SPLIT TONING' and sometimes 'HSL'. After that, I fine-tune details with 'DEHAZE', 'CONTRAST', and selectively apply 'LOWER CLARITY' for smooth skin. Finally, I add 'GRAIN' and 'VIGNETTE' for that classic filmic touch. This flow helps me achieve that polished, cinematic look every time. Hope these extra tips help you achieve your dream cinematic photos! What's your favorite setting to tweak in Lightroom Mobile?
