LEASH TRAINING MY DOG!

I’ve had my pitbull since she was a baby, and we started leash training from day one. We tried everything — special harnesses, slip leads, even prong collars (not a fan, didn’t last long). One of our funniest tricks was the peanut butter stick — total chaos but she loved it.

BUT the real game changer? The Gentle Leader! It completely transformed our walks. She’s calmer, more focused, and no more pulling.

I added a screenshot from Amazon so you can check it out for yourself!

... Read moreLeash training is essential for ensuring safe and enjoyable walks with your dog. One popular tool in the dog training community is the Halti headcollar, which prevents pulling and offers better control. Featuring a padded nose band and adjustable straps, it's a great option for medium dogs. Harnesses can be effective, but many dog owners find that headcollars provide a more immediate solution for energetic breeds like pitbulls. It's important to introduce any new training equipment gradually, allowing your dog to adjust. Additionally, consistency in training methods is key. Utilize positive reinforcement techniques to encourage good behavior, such as treats or praise when your dog walks calmly beside you. Engaging in regular training sessions will reinforce these skills and help establish a stronger bond with your pet. Regular socialization with other dogs can also improve your pitbull's behavior on walks. Explore outdoor training classes or dog parks to provide controlled environments for practicing leash work with distractions. Remember to keep training sessions short and fun to maintain your pitbull’s interest! Incorporating a range of training techniques tailored to your dog’s personality will yield the best results.

Leash training can be hard! Why do dogs seem to always gravitate to pulling us? This is because they have a natural reflex that’s called “ Opposition Relex” this is a natural instinct to push against pressure. This can be seen in many different circumstances but is also seen in leash training. Y
