Do I Even Like To Read? 🤔
Nothing humbles you like a reading slump that was actually just bad book selections.
Reading slumps can make you question whether you even enjoy reading anymore, especially after going through a series of 'meh' books that fail to capture your interest. From my own experience, I realized that not every book will resonate, and sometimes the slump is more about poor book selection than a loss of love for reading itself. What helped me was shifting my mindset away from pressure to 'finish' books that weren't engaging and instead focusing on discovering genres or authors I hadn't tried before. For instance, exploring diverse voices or picking shorter books can renew excitement. It’s also useful to engage with communities like #booktok or #ReadingSlump where fellow readers share honest struggles and recommendations. Allow yourself to take breaks without guilt; sometimes, stepping away rejuvenates your enthusiasm. Additionally, mixing in audiobooks or graphic novels can provide a fresh way to enjoy stories without the typical reading format fatigue. Remember, reading should be enjoyable, not a chore. If a book doesn’t click, it’s perfectly fine to set it aside and try something else. The key is to keep exploring until you find that ‘good read’ that makes you forget the slump and reconnects you with the joy of reading.
