Comparing highlighters I use the least 😅

When I want to use highlighters I like to have two sets; one set of pastels and one that is more vibrant.

These are the two sets in my collection I do not use very often. I decided to swatch them and see if I should!!

My thoughts;

✨Marvy Pastel Liner

oh my gosh.. I slept on these so bad!! ✋

Cannot recommend enough. I love these- they’re not over the top- and do not bleed! These ones might become a current favorite because for me they glide across the page very easily. I love a highlighter that doesn’t require me to work super hard to get a good swipe- these are definitely getting promoted to backpack status!

I don’t know their full line as I bought these on a whim one day, but I’m definitely going to look and see 👀

✨Sharpie (specifically the see through ones)

I’m honestly in the market to look for a better vibrant set.. the normal highlighters are so much better (hence why those are in the backpack!), but I feel like these special “see through” ones are a flop for me. At least compared to everything else in my set. Don’t get me wrong, they look super pretty! However, I tend to have trouble getting a straight line when I use them. They have a harder time gliding along pages for me. I don’t like having to work hard to highlight mid lecture :’)

What highlighters do you guys use most often?

Do you guys have one you may be sleeping on?

... Read moreWhen it comes to studying, highlighting is an absolute essential for me. It’s not just about marking text; it’s about making key information pop without overwhelming the page. I often get asked about my favorite highlighters, and while I’ve tried many, I’ve definitely learned a thing or two about what truly makes a difference in a study session. Why Pastel Highlighters Are a Game Changer Many of you might be wondering, what makes pastel highlighters different from regular ones, and what are the benefits of using pastel highlighters over neon ones? For me, the answer is clear: they’re much gentler on the eyes. Neon colors, while vibrant, can sometimes cause eye strain, especially during long study sessions. Pastel hues offer a softer contrast against the page, making highlighted text easy to read without being jarring. They also tend to photograph better if you're digitizing your notes! Plus, in my experience, good quality pastel highlighters often have less bleed-through on thinner paper compared to their neon counterparts, which is a huge bonus for textbook annotations. My Top Tips for Choosing Your Next Pastel Highlighter Set So, what should I consider when choosing pastel highlighter sets? After trying countless brands and types, I've narrowed it down to a few crucial factors: Ink Quality & Bleed-Through: This is paramount. You want highlighters that lay down smooth, consistent color without soaking through to the other side of your page. My Marvy Pastel Liners, for instance, are fantastic in this regard. Glide Factor: How easily does the nib glide across the paper? A smooth glide means less effort and cleaner lines, especially important when you’re highlighting quickly during a lecture. My initial swatches always test this. Color Variety & Pigmentation: Pastel doesn't mean dull! Look for sets with a good range of soft yet distinct colors. The Marvy Pastel Liners have beautiful pastel color swatches that are vibrant enough to stand out but not overwhelming. Comfort & Durability: Are they comfortable to hold? Do the caps stay on securely? These small details make a big difference over time. Deep Dive: Marvy Pastel Liners – What Makes Them a 9/10 for Me? As I mentioned in my original post, I seriously slept on the Marvy Pastel Liners! These are my absolute favorites right now. When you see the pastel color swatches, they just look so inviting. These highlighters truly glide across the page effortlessly. I can highlight entire paragraphs mid-lecture without feeling like I’m fighting the pen. What makes them stand out is their consistent ink flow and virtually no bleed-through, even on thinner textbook pages. The OCR confirmed the image showed 'MARVY PASTEL LINERS' with a '9/10 very solid for me' rating, and I totally stand by that. They’ve earned their permanent spot in my backpack, a testament to their reliability and user-friendly design. Deep Dive: Sharpie See-Through Highlighters – Why They Didn't Make the Cut Now, about the Sharpie highlighters, specifically the 'see-through' ones. While the vibrant color swatches look great on paper, my experience hasn't been as smooth. The OCR noted 'SHARPIE Highlighters' with a '6/10 I think I've tried better.' My main issue is getting a straight line; the nib just doesn’t glide as easily as I’d like. This means I have to apply more pressure, leading to less precise highlighting and sometimes even smudges. While regular Sharpie highlighters are usually reliable, this particular 'see-through' variant felt like a miss for my personal study style, especially when compared to the Marvy set. They look super pretty, but functionality is key for me. A Note on Color: The Appeal of Pink and Other Hues It’s interesting how specific colors, like a pink highlighter on paper, can become a personal favorite. For me, a soft pink or a muted blue pastel always stands out without being too aggressive. Different colors can serve different purposes – maybe pink for definitions, blue for theories, and yellow for key terms. The beauty of a good pastel set is having that versatility while maintaining a harmonious aesthetic in your notes. Ultimately, the best highlighters are the ones that work best for your individual study habits and preferences!
