What I realized through research and personal trial was that my hormones, particularly cortisol, were sabotaging my progress. Cortisol is often called the 'stress hormone,' and when it's chronically elevated, it signals the body to hold onto fat, especially around the belly. This is the body's survival mechanism kicking in, as it perceives ongoing stress as a threat. For me, this meant increased belly fat, stubborn bloating, fatigue, and intense cravings, all despite healthy habits. What changed was shifting my focus from traditional dieting to calming my stress response and supporting hormone balance. I began incorporating stress reduction techniques like mindfulness meditation, deep breathing exercises, and consistent sleep hygiene. Adding adaptogenic herbs such as ashwagandha also helped regulate my cortisol levels. I found that gentle movement like yoga replaced some high-intensity workouts that initially increased my stress. This hormonal support transformed my fat loss journey. Fat began to melt, my energy levels surged, and cravings subsided. Understanding that fat loss in your 30s isn’t just a matter of willpower, but deeply tied to how your hormones communicate, was crucial.
