let me tell you what my life actually looked like.

I was waking up between 2 and 4am every single night.

I thought I just had insomnia.

I was exhausted before my day even started.

I thought I just needed to slow down.

I was puffy no matter what I ate or how hard I worked out.

I thought I just needed to try harder.

I was anxious all the time for absolutely no reason.

I thought that was just my personality now.

I had salt and sugar cravings that felt completely out of my control.

I thought I just had no willpower.

I was overwhelmed by things that never used to overwhelm me.

I thought I was just bad at handling stress.

I blamed myself for every single one of these things.

for years.

and every single one of them had the exact same root cause.

one hormone.

completely out of control.

silently running my life into the ground.

and the worst part?

I didn’t even know it was happening.

I just thought this was what being a woman felt like.

it is not.

and you deserve to know that.

4/30 Edited to

... Read moreFor a long time, I struggled with symptoms that I thought were just part of my daily life—from waking up in the early hours to uncontrollable cravings and unexplained anxiety. What I didn’t realize was that cortisol, known as the stress hormone, was the root cause of these issues. Cortisol plays a crucial role in regulating numerous functions in our body, including the sleep-wake cycle, metabolism, immune response, and mood regulation. One personal experience that stood out was waking up consistently between 2 and 4am. This common symptom indicates a disruption in cortisol’s natural rhythm, which ideally peaks in the morning and drops during the night to allow restful sleep. When cortisol is out of balance, it can trigger insomnia or restless sleep, leaving you exhausted despite spending enough hours in bed. Another challenge was feeling constantly puffy and struggling with weight despite maintaining a healthy diet and regular exercise. Elevated cortisol levels can cause water retention and increase fat storage, particularly around the abdomen, making weight loss difficult. This hormone imbalance also stimulates salt and sugar cravings, which I initially attributed to weak willpower but were actually signs of my body reacting to stress. Anxiety without an obvious cause became a frequent part of my life. Cortisol affects brain function and can exacerbate feelings of anxiety and overwhelm, which might explain why even minor stressors felt unmanageable. Many people dismiss these feelings as personality traits rather than recognizing they may stem from hormonal imbalance. Addressing cortisol imbalance requires a multifaceted approach. For me, this included improving my diet with nutrient-dense foods that support hormone health, prioritizing sleep hygiene, incorporating stress-reducing practices such as mindfulness meditation, and consulting with healthcare providers to monitor hormone levels. These changes gradually restored balance, improved my energy, and reduced anxiety. If you find yourself exhausted no matter how much you sleep, battling constant anxiety, cravings, or unexplained weight gain, it’s worth exploring whether cortisol imbalance might be affecting you. Understanding that these symptoms are not just 'normal' parts of being a woman but signals for deeper hormonal imbalance is empowering. It allows you to take actionable steps toward regaining control of your health and life.

What I actually write in my journal
Most of what I write would make zero sense to anyone else. Half sentences. Random memories. A line that just says, “this feels heavy” over and over again. It’s not polished. It’s not linear. It’s not even always coherent. And that’s kind of the point. Your journal isn’t where you perf

Against a backdrop of yellow wildflowers, text advises speaking from experience instead of labeling someone "Avoidant." It provides an example phrase: "Sometimes I feel like there's a wall between us..."
