Choose Your Hard
Life will be hard no matter what path you take.
Building something meaningful is hard.
Staying stuck is hard.
Growing is hard.
Regret is hard.
The shift comes when you stop trying to avoid difficulty and start choosing the kind of hard you’re willing to face.
Every decision leads to a different kind of challenge. The goal isn’t to eliminate struggle—it’s to choose the struggle that moves your life in a direction you’re proud of.

Life is a series of choices, each accompanied by its own set of challenges. One of the most empowering realizations I've come to is that while hardship is unavoidable, we have the agency to 'choose our hard.' For example, dedicating time and effort to build a meaningful career or project might be exhausting, but it often brings a deep sense of accomplishment and purpose. On the contrary, avoiding growth may seem easier momentarily, but it leads to the hardship of stagnation and regret over time. I remember when I faced a crossroads between staying in a comfortable but unfulfilling job and pursuing a passion that required learning new skills alongside financial uncertainty. The 'hard' I chose was to grow and push beyond my comfort zone. Yes, it was challenging; there were setbacks and moments of doubt. However, choosing this path meant embracing a different kind of struggle—one that fostered personal growth, resilience, and eventual satisfaction. Understanding that every decision brings its own hardships helped me shift my mindset. Rather than fearing difficulty, I started to evaluate which challenges aligned with my values and long-term goals. This approach transforms struggle from a source of frustration into an opportunity for intentional growth. If you find yourself stuck, it’s worth asking: What kind of hard am I willing to face? Whether it’s building a new habit, changing career paths, or improving relationships, selecting your struggle allows you to direct your energy purposefully. It encourages a proactive rather than reactive attitude toward life’s difficulties. Choosing your hard is essentially about embracing responsibility for your journey. It reminds us that while life will always present obstacles, we can select paths that make these struggles meaningful and ultimately rewarding.
