“I love you. I fell in love with you in the depths of my soul, and it’s my soul that will find yours again in the next life.”

Not so much an in depth review, but mostly just me proclaiming my love for this series 😍 I’ve seen some mixed reviews on this third installment in the Crescent City series, but I wholeheartedly enjoyed it and was not disappointed!

This story starts off immediately where book 2 ended. So I was glad we were thrown right back into the thick of it. It was fast paced compared to the previous books in the series and in typical #sjmaas fashion those last 100 pages were an absolute blur! I went through all the emotions- I gasped and cried and felt giddy 🥰 Probably one of my favorites out of the whole #maasverse

Now that I have officially read all three of Sarah’s series, I definitely recommend reading ACOTAR and TOG prior to CC.

... Read moreBuilding on my initial thoughts, I wanted to dive a little deeper into House of Flame and Shadow and the Crescent City series, especially for those wondering if it's worth the hype or how it fits into the broader Maasverse. This book truly felt like the culmination of everything Sarah J. Maas has been building. Navigating the Maasverse: Reading Order & Impact If you're new to Sarah J. Maas's incredible worlds, my biggest tip is definitely to read ACOTAR (A Court of Thorns and Roses) and Throne of Glass before diving into Crescent City. Trust me, it makes the experience so much richer! There are subtle nods, recurring themes, and even direct connections that hit differently when you have that foundational knowledge. For me, seeing everything connect in House of Flame and Shadow truly felt like this was 'the series that set my soul on fire' – it's an 'epic urban romantasy' that pays off years of reading and investment in these characters and worlds. While each series stands alone, reading them in a specific order (like ACOTAR then TOG then CC) allows for a more profound appreciation of the intricate tapestry Maas has woven across her literary universe. It enhances not just the plot, but the emotional resonance of key moments in CC3. The "Spice" Factor & Deep Emotional Connections Now, let's talk about what many readers are curious about: the 'spicy chapters' in Crescent City 3. While I won't give any spoilers, SJM definitely delivers on the intense romance and emotional connections we've come to expect from her. It's not just about explicit scenes; it's about the deep bonds, the unwavering loyalty, the sacrifices, and the incredible chemistry between the characters that makes your heart race. House of Flame and Shadow develops these relationships beautifully, adding layers of complexity and passion that are absolutely integral to the plot. You'll find yourself rooting for these characters through every challenge, every tender moment, and every difficult decision. The emotional payoff for their journeys is immense, making the 'spice' feel earned and meaningful within the larger narrative. Pacing, Length, and Utter Immersion One thing I absolutely loved about House of Flame and Shadow is its relentless pace. From the moment you turn the first page, you're thrown into the action, much like my original review mentioned. While I haven't counted 'how many chapters' there are, what I can tell you is that the book is substantial in length, and every chapter feels essential. SJM masterfully weaves multiple plotlines, mysteries, and character arcs, building to an explosive climax that leaves you breathless. Those last 100 pages truly are a blur because you simply can't put it down. It’s a testament to how engrossing the storytelling is, making you feel every gasp, tear, and giddy moment right alongside the characters. The length allows for incredible world-building and character development that makes the final resolution so much more impactful. Overall, if you're a fan of fantasy, intricate world-building, and powerful relationships, Crescent City 3 is an absolute triumph. It solidifies its place as one of my favorite Maasverse installments and is a journey you won't regret taking. Grab your copy and get ready for an unforgettable adventure!
