SWEET POTATO OAT CAKES🍠
My 10-month-old devours these the second I place them down. Sweet potatoes were the first food we introduced him too and he has loved them ever since.
SWEET POTATO OAT CAKES RECIPE🍠
1 boiled sweet potato smashed
Add a pinch of cinnamon
Mix in soften oats (cook down in milk to soften)
Form the mixture into patties. I never measure the oats just add in as much as needed to form the cakes.
Cook in a non-stick pan with olive oil or butter until they are cooked to your liking (about 3 minutes each side).
Let cool before serving.
Thats it. Easy and my baby loves them 🤗👏🏼
Ever since I started making these sweet potato oat cakes for my little one, meal times have become so much more enjoyable! It's not just about a quick recipe; it's about providing a nutritious and fun meal that my baby genuinely loves. I remember the days of trying to find finger foods that weren't just puffs, and these oat cakes were a game-changer. One of the best things about these baby oat cakes is how versatile they are. While the basic recipe is fantastic, I sometimes like to switch things up to keep my baby’s palate excited and ensure they get a wider range of nutrients. For example, instead of just sweet potato, I've tried adding a little mashed banana or even some finely grated apple for a different flavor profile. A pinch of nutmeg or a tiny bit of ginger can also add a lovely warmth, especially in colder months. Just remember to introduce new ingredients one at a time to check for any sensitivities, as every baby is different! And serving them couldn't be easier! I usually place a few of these homemade sweet potato oat cakes on a divided plate alongside other healthy sides. Sometimes it's a spoonful of soft white rice, or maybe some steamed green beans cut into tiny pieces. I've even paired them with a little baby food pouch of fruit puree. It really helps create a balanced meal and introduces them to different textures and colors, just like you see in those cute baby meal setups. It’s amazing how much my 10-month-old enjoys picking them up and feeding themselves – it’s such an important part of their development! Another huge plus for me as a busy mom is how well these baby oat cakes store. I often make a bigger batch on the weekend. Once they’ve cooled completely, I store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. For longer storage, you can even freeze them! Just lay them flat on a baking sheet to freeze individually, then transfer them to a freezer-safe bag. When you’re ready to serve, just pop them in the microwave for a few seconds or gently warm them in a pan. They’re perfect for those Grab-and-Go moments or when you need a quick snack during a busy day. Introducing new textures can sometimes be a challenge, but these soft oat cakes are perfect for little gums. If your baby is just starting on finger foods, make sure they are soft enough to squish easily between your fingers. It’s also important to always supervise your baby during meal times, especially with new foods, and ensure they are sitting upright to minimize any choking risks. My baby started with very small pieces and gradually moved to whole cakes as they got more confident. They've been a staple in our household since sweet potatoes were one of our very first introduction foods, and they continue to be a favorite now that my little one is almost a year old. Trust me, these sweet potato oat cakes will become a favorite for your little one too!
