Date night in our city: Part 2 ✌🏻 🌊
For our date this week - we headed on a road trip up Highway 17 🚗💨 our first stop the Voyageurs' Lodge across from Batchewana Bay. They have some amazing take away food here, can confirm the poutine is unreal but today our sights were set on their famous apple fritters 👀
Our road trip continued into Lake Superior Provincial Park which has SO many amazing places in it and inspired quite a few paintings from The Group of 7 - one of our favourite stops is Bathtub Island which is where we spent the day ☀️🪨🌊
Not only does this beach have amazing white sand, but the rock formation holds some lake water which is quite a bit warmer than the lake itself 🥶
We love making this date night videos - we will see you next week 👀
One of the best ways to truly enjoy a date night or weekend getaway in Northern Ontario is to embrace the natural beauty and local flavors along the way. Highway 17, often called part of the Trans-Canada Highway, offers breathtaking views and charming spots to explore. The Voyageurs' Lodge near Batchewana Bay is a must-visit for food lovers—especially those with a sweet tooth—because their apple fritters are not just a treat, but practically a regional legend with over 110,000 sold in just one season. From personal experience, their crispy yet soft texture paired with just the right amount of sweetness makes them perfect to enjoy on the go or as a picnic snack. As you continue your journey into Lake Superior Provincial Park, you enter a landscape that has inspired many Canadian artists, including members of the iconic Group of Seven. Places like Katherine’s Cove offer serene settings for reflections and quiet moments, while Bathtub Island provides a unique natural phenomenon—a pool of lake water warmed by the sun and shielded by rock formations. Spending a day here feels like a mini tropical escape despite the cooler regional climate. Walking along the white sand beach and dipping into the warm water “bathtub” can be both refreshing and calming, an ideal combination for connecting with your date or simply unwinding in nature. For travelers wanting to extend their trip, nearby landmarks such as Agawa Rock Pictographs and the Sault Ste. Marie area add cultural and historical depth to the outdoor adventure. Northern Ontario really is a treasure trove of hidden gems that blend culinary delights, natural beauty, and artistic inspiration. Whether you are on a romantic date night or a solo road trip, this route is bound to leave you with lasting memories and maybe even spark some creativity. Don’t forget to bring your camera or sketchbook to capture the scenery and flavors that define this remarkable region.
