... Read moreTraveling the Iceland Ring Road by campervan is one of the most liberating ways to experience this stunning country. From our own journey, we found that starting in Reykjavik gave us a perfect mix of urban charm and easy access to nature. Driving from Reykjavik to Vik, the first two days, we enjoyed breathtaking landscapes, waterfalls, and black sand beaches. Staying in a campervan allows flexibility in timing and stops, which is essential because Iceland’s weather can change rapidly. For example, while heading from Vik to Hofn on day 3, we recommend stopping frequently to explore glacier lagoons and get closer to the Vatnajökull glacier. The stretch from Hofn to Akureyri across days 4 to 6 presented spectacular fjord views and quaint towns like Reyðarfjörður and Saudarkrokur. Camping near Akureyri gave us a chance to enjoy the local culture and even spot northern lights in the right season. Our visit to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula on day 7 was a highlight — this region is often called 'Iceland in Miniature' because it features a bit of everything: lava fields, beaches, mountains, and charming fishing villages like Stykkishólmur. Concluding the trip with the Golden Circle and returning to Reykjavik on day 8 allowed us to see iconic sites such as Geysir, Gullfoss waterfall, and Þingvellir National Park. For those planning a similar trip, securing a well-equipped campervan is vital, including heating, cooking facilities, and adequate sleeping arrangements. Also, stocking up on groceries in Reykjavik or larger towns is advisable since remote areas have limited options. This itinerary offers a balance of driving and exploration, ensuring you experience Iceland’s natural wonders at a comfortable pace. Prepare for varying weather and road conditions, and you’ll enjoy an unforgettable campervan journey along Iceland’s famous Ring Road.
