I’ve personally experienced situations where I was always the one initiating plans or checking in. Initially, I would brush it off, thinking people get busy, but over time it became clear that the effort wasn’t mutual. When friends repeatedly need to be reminded or prompted to engage, it can feel draining and unbalanced. This dynamic often signals a need to reassess the value and health of that friendship. I found that asking myself the question, "Do they make an effort without being reminded?" helped me set boundaries and understand who genuinely cared. Additionally, it’s important not to confuse occasional forgetfulness with a consistent pattern of disinterest. Life gets hectic, but true friends show up and invest without needing constant nudging. In my experience, those who expect 'princess treatment' only when reminded, as the Friend Audit highlights, aren’t valuing the friendship equally. The Friend Audit’s approach encourages self-awareness and honesty. It’s empowering to realize that it’s okay to step back from friendships that consistently feel one-sided. This has personally helped me focus more on relationships that enrich my life rather than exhaust it, fostering deeper, more reciprocal bonds. If you find yourself constantly questioning if your friend really cares, consider this question seriously. It can be a turning point to either rekindle the connection or gracefully move on for your own wellbeing. Remember, friendships are about mutual support, respect, and effort — and that effort should flow naturally without reminders.
