Special needs parenting is not for the faint of ❤️

One of the biggest regrets of getting myself out of sorts was how it affected my kids by way of my disdain for myself. 🥺

For about 15 years, I carried the weight—physically, mentally, emotionally.

Three kids. A full-time corporate job traveling the country. All while my body changed in ways I didn’t understand and couldn’t seem to control.

What no one tells you is how much that kind of stress can wear on your patience—especially as a mom.

And then came my youngest, my daughter with Down syndrome.

She’s six now.

And parenting her takes a different level of presence and calm—something I didn’t always have when I was running on fumes, gaining weight, and constantly in survival mode.

If I have a regret, it’s not that I struggled. It’s that I didn’t give myself permission to prioritize my own health sooner.

Because when I started getting well again—truly well—it all changed.

I’m more patient.

More grounded.

More capable of meeting her needs because I’ve finally learned how to meet mine first.

It’s the oxygen mask analogy. You can’t pour from an empty cup—but moms try every single day.

And I get it.

It’s not easy chasing health while working, raising kids, aging, and navigating hormone shifts.

But simple, sustainable changes have made a massive difference in my energy, mood, and mindset—and my kids feel that.

If you’ve been holding it all together and silently unraveling, please hear this:

You’re allowed to choose you—and when you do, everyone wins.

💌 DM me the word MOM and I’ll share the tools that helped me reclaim my energy, balance my hormones, and find the version of myself my kids needed all along.

... Read moreParenting a child with special needs can be a profound journey filled with challenges, joys, and immeasurable growth. For parents, particularly mothers, the experience often leads to feelings of overwhelm and fatigue. It's crucial to acknowledge that the mental, emotional, and physical toll can significantly impact your ability to support your child. Many moms feel they are constantly placing their children's needs above their own, which leads to burnout. Supporting a child with developmental delays, such as Down syndrome, requires a high level of emotional presence and resilience. This can be especially hard if you're struggling with your own health, whether it's physical fitness or mental well-being. Many parents report feeling the pressure to project strength while managing concerns about their well-being, which can create a cycle of stress and anxiety. However, understanding that self-care is not selfish is fundamental. Taking the time to care for your physical and emotional health enables you to be the best version of yourself for your child. Simple lifestyle adjustments, consistent mental health practices, and support systems can foster resilience and patience. Making self-care a priority can be transformative, allowing you to connect more deeply with your child and enhancing your overall family dynamic. In addition to prioritizing wellness, it's vital to seek community support. Engaging with other parents going through similar experiences can provide comfort and practical advice. Online forums, local support groups, and social media communities can be valuable resources. Sharing experiences, strategies, and emotional encouragement can alleviate feelings of isolation and empower you in your role. Finally, remember that your journey is unique. Embrace each moment and celebrate your wins, no matter how small. As you take steps to improve your wellness, you're paving the way for your family to thrive. Emphasizing a balanced approach to parenting enables you to build a richer, more rewarding bond with your child, navigating the intricacies of special needs parenting together.
