Read that again.
You’re not hurt because they don’t see you.
You’re hurt because you keep abandoning yourself trying to make them.
That’s the pattern.
And once you break it?
You stop overgiving, over-explaining, and overextending.
You choose yourself—and everything changes.
I've experienced firsthand the exhausting cycle of validation addiction—constantly seeking approval and trying to meet others' expectations at the expense of my own well-being. It took a conscious shift to recognize that the pain wasn’t from being unseen by others but from repeatedly abandoning my own needs to make others acknowledge me. Breaking this pattern was challenging but empowering. I learned to stop overgiving, over-explaining, and overextending myself. Setting boundaries wasn't easy initially, as I feared rejection, but it was essential for my healing journey. Choosing myself first helped me regain my identity and confidence. The process involves detachment from others' opinions without becoming cold or indifferent. It’s about healthy self-worth and understanding that I don’t need to be understood or validated by toxic people in my life. This mindset shift upgraded not just my perspective but my entire identity. If you find yourself caught in this pattern, know that deep healing is possible. Start by acknowledging your worth and practicing self-care unapologetically. With every step you take towards choosing yourself, you reclaim your power and transform your relationships and life.
