How my decor style changed in my late 20s

In my early 20s, I didn’t fully know what I liked when it came to home decor. I was experimenting (which I actually think is so important!), and like most people starting out, I was on a tight budget. Hobby Lobby was my go-to because it was easy to pick an aisle and grab a bunch of matching items in the same aesthetic. I also had this urge to fill every single wall.

Now, in my late 20s, my style—and lifestyle—have evolved. I’ve learned to value quality over quantity. I’m so much more intentional with what I bring into my home. I want every piece to feel timeless and personal. Like our dining room gallery wall - it was definitely an investment, but it feels clean, curated, and meaningful without being cluttered.

I’ve also said goodbye to gray everything. I lean into warmth, natural textures, and custom touches like built-ins and statement walls that make the space feel more high-end and lived-in.

It finally feels like me. And I’m so glad I gave myself the space to experiment and grow into my style.

... Read moreAs people transition through their late 20s, evolving tastes and lifestyles often influence the way they approach home decor. Moving from a mindset focused on quantity and inexpensive trends toward investing in quality and timeless pieces is a common theme. Embracing natural textures and warm, inviting color palettes helps foster a sense of comfort and sophistication in living spaces. Incorporating built-ins instead of just furniture adds a custom feel that elevates the room's overall aesthetic, combining functionality with style. One essential aspect of this decor evolution is ditching the overused gray tones that have dominated interiors for years. Instead, shifting toward colors inspired by nature—such as warm beiges, soft browns, and muted greens—creates a more inviting atmosphere. Textured accents, whether through woven fabrics, wooden elements, or natural stone, add depth and personality to a room while ensuring it feels lived-in and authentic. Investing in statement decor pieces such as a carefully curated gallery wall can transform a dining or living space into a meaningful focal point. These elements reflect personal style and history, fostering a connection between inhabitants and their environment. The emphasis on quality over quantity means each item carries significance, reducing clutter and enhancing the feeling of intentional living. Ultimately, the key to evolving home decor in one's late 20s revolves around experimentation at the start, followed by thoughtful refinement. Allowing space for growth in style, while pivoting toward timelessness, natural colors, and custom architectural touches, results in a beautifully balanced and high-end home environment that genuinely feels personal and welcoming.
