The Meeting I Didn’t Have Ended Up Being the Best Part of My Day

I walked into today expecting one meeting.

Instead, I left with a reminder that progress rarely follows the plan.

I stopped by Skewr NYC to meet with Chef Austin, but he was opening a new restaurant in New Jersey. While I was there, I met someone who had just started working at the restaurant. She told me she felt a little lost.

We talked about growth, purpose, and using AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude to learn, explore ideas, and find direction. Before I left, she thanked me for inspiring her.

Later, Chef Austin and I spoke on the phone about MEAT Hospitality, rooftop events, and building something people genuinely want to be part of. One thing he said stuck with me:

“You have to market it where you’re doing the events.”

That perspective gave me something to think about.

On the business side, I helped a Woolco Foods customer get their account back up and running after an LLC issue, and they’re already planning to place another order.

I even made two trips to Trader Joe’s because I forgot the corn for my casserole. 😅

Today’s takeaway

Not every win is obvious.

Sometimes the best opportunities come from the conversations you never planned to have.

Keep showing up.

Keep planting seeds.

You never know which one will grow. 🌱

... Read moreSometimes, the greatest lessons come from the moments we least expect. When I set out to meet with Chef Austin at Skewr NYC, not knowing he was off launching a new restaurant in New Jersey, I didn’t anticipate how impactful a chance encounter could be. Meeting someone new who felt uncertain about her role reminded me how important it is to have purpose and direction—even in early career stages. Using AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude can be transformative in these moments. They offer a way to brainstorm ideas, seek guidance, and find clarity on personal and professional growth paths. I’ve found that embracing such technology not only boosts creativity but also helps maintain focus when ambitions seem overwhelming. Chef Austin’s insight about marketing ‘‘where you’re doing the events’’ resonated deeply with me. In the digital age, authentic connections matter more than ever. Promoting experiences onsite and fostering real relationships create loyal communities. This tangible engagement often outperforms broad campaigns because it meets people in the actual moment of interaction. Moreover, small wins in business, like restoring a client’s account after administrative hurdles, illustrate that persistence and attention to detail are key. These incremental successes contribute significantly to long-term growth and customer trust. Even mundane tasks—like making multiple trips to Trader Joe’s because of minor oversights—remind us to be patient and adaptable. Life’s unpredictability often leads to unexpected opportunities and new relationships that enrich both career and personal life. In my experience, showing up consistently and being open to unplanned conversations plants seeds for future success. By combining modern tools, marketing wisely, and nurturing genuine connections, we can build meaningful careers and thriving businesses. So, embrace the unexpected—it might turn out to be the best part of your day too.
