I gave birth throwing up

My Labor & Delivery Story: From Induction to Surprise Delivery

I went into the hospital at 5 p.m. on a Wednesday, ready to begin the induction process. I was excited, nervous, and had no idea what a wild ride I was in for.😅

Induction Troubles: Slow Progress & Exhaustion

They gave me the first induction pill, but it didn’t do much. I was only 1 cm dilated, and although I was having contractions, labor wasn’t progressing. After a second pill, I was still stuck at 1 cm.🙄

The following night, the doctor came in, ready to discharge me and let labor happen naturally. But a few minutes after she left, my baby’s heart rate started to drop. That changed everything. They decided to try a new method—something like a suppository that sits behind the cervix.❤️‍🩹

It worked—I finally reached 2 cm-but by then, I was completely exhausted. My body was tense from the lack of rest and ongoing contractions.🥹

•Managing Pain: Fentanyl & Epidural Relief

I asked for fentanyl, which helped take the edge off the pain, but I still couldn’t relax fully. Around 11 p.m., my jaw started to tremble with each contraction. 😩That’s when I finally asked for an epidural—and honestly, it was the best decision I made.

Once it kicked in, I couldn’t feel anything from the waist down except a light tingly sensation. I was able to finally sleep and give my body the break it needed.😮‍💨

*Side Note:*

I told the nurses I only wanted to reach about a 5 out of 10 on the pain scale and that I was trying to be realistic about birth. I used breathing techniques, a birthing ball, side lunges, and stretching to stay active and focused. But when my jaw started trembling, I knew I had to listen to my body—and I’m so glad I did.✅

•Epidural = Game Changer

Let me just say—I LOVED the epidural!

I had been so terrified of needles, but once it kicked in, I couldn’t stop saying how amazing it was. The nurses were cracking up because of how quickly I changed my mind about it. Since I was finally relaxed, my body started to progress really quickly.😌

By 3 a.m., I was already at 7 cm.

•The Twist: Water, Nausea, and Surprise Delivery

Around 5:30 a.m. on Friday, I woke up feeling extremely thirsty and chugged some water. 💧Just as the nurse walked in to check my dilation again, I started to feel a bit nauseous.🤢

I asked for a throw-up bag, just in case. Even then—still no pain.

She handed me the bag, and immediately, all the water came back up. 🤮The nurse looked shocked because I was just calmly smiling moments before😲. But then, while I was throwing up, I felt a strange pressure between my hips. Not painful—just an intense feeling like I needed to 💩 and push at the same time.

I pointed down and tried to speak, but all I could get out was:

“Look.”Meanwhile, my partner was passed out on the couch.)🛌

The nurse checked, and suddenly she said:

“Ohhh, I see a head. You’re delivering now!”😱

• Blink and He’s Here!

She called it in, and I tried to wake up my partner—still throwing up water. He finally woke up just in time to see the baby literally pop out.🤯🫨

I didn’t even push—my body just took over. It felt like the vomiting helped my stomach contract, and that’s all it took. The nurses rushed in 🏃🏾‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏼‍♀️💨, and a few minutes later, the doctor came to stitch up a large tear (which I didn’t feel at all thanks to the epidural).

•A Beautiful, Unexpected Ending

Afterward, the nurse told me that this was actually her first time delivering a baby. So it ended up being a beautiful and unforgettable experience for both of us.🥹

---

**Final Thoughts:**

Birth can be unpredictable, overwhelming, and emotional—but it can also be full of unexpected calm, strength, and even humor. I went in with a plan and had to adjust multiple times, but listening to my body, asking for support, and trusting the process doctors , nurses made all the difference.🤎‼️

And yes—I would 1000% recommend the epidural.

Many parents-to-be are often nervous and excited at the same time, balancing their hopes for a smooth delivery with the realities of childbirth. During labor, physical and emotional challenges often arise, making it essential to rely on supportive partners and medical staff. In my experience, the insistence on communication and listening to my body paved the way for a successful delivery. Pregnancy and childbirth bring unique experiences and stories; the unpredictability of labor can offer both challenges and joyful surprises. Pain management options are critical during labor, ranging from natural methods to medical interventions like epidurals and pain medications. Each choice carries its own implications, so it's important to weigh these options ahead of time in the birthing plan. Additionally, keeping an open mind about labor progress and personal pain tolerance can help mothers navigate their journey with more ease. As birth experiences vary widely, sharing stories can provide comfort and knowledge for expectant parents. Whether it's learning from others’ experiences with nausea, fatigue, or the physical demands of labor, each story adds another layer to understanding childbirth. Ultimately, trusting the process, preparing for different outcomes, and remaining flexible can lead to rewarding, memorable experiences. Many find empowerment in sharing their unique stories, emphasizing the importance of maternal support, communication with healthcare providers, and embracing the unexpected aspects of childbirth.

I gave birth to a 12 pound baby!
This was my second pregnancy, and my doctor let me get to 41 weeks! I tried to have her naturally but my body wouldn’t dilate past 8cm… I ended up having an emergency c section and my doctor said she was stuck in my pelvis and there’s no way she’d be able to come out without surgery. #bigbaby
