Embracing my curls✨

This weekend I decided I would start wearing my natural curls again. I’ve had so many failed attempts at doing twist outs but I’m committed to learning and growing with my hair.

I realized I only love my natural hair when it’s straight. I want to unlearn whatever caused me not to see my own natural beauty in my hair.

As I go on this journey I hope you inspire some of you to take the leap too if you haven’t. I stopped getting relaxers my serious year in high school. Now it’s time to really fall in love with my hair.

I pray you have the most amazing day and love yourself the way God loves you.

I send all my love 🤎

... Read moreIt's incredible to hear you're embracing your natural curls! That feeling of realizing you only love your hair when it's straight is so relatable. I've been there, and it truly is a journey of unlearning and rediscovering the beautiful texture you were born with. Seeing your natural hair in full effect, truly embracing my curls, has been one of the most empowering things I've done. For anyone else thinking of taking the leap or just starting their own curly hair journey, here are a few things that really helped me, especially when navigating those first few months. The most important thing is patience and kindness to yourself and your hair. It’s not just about products; it’s about a mindset shift to truly appreciate the unique beauty of your natural texture. First, let's talk about cleansing and conditioning. Ditching harsh sulfates and silicones made a huge difference. I swapped to gentle, sulfate-free shampoos or even just co-washing (washing with conditioner!) most of the time. Deep conditioning regularly became my best friend – once a week, minimum, to keep those gorgeous curly hair strands moisturized. Hydration is absolutely key for bounce and shine! Next up, styling for definition. You mentioned struggling with twist-outs, and I totally get it! They take practice, but they're worth mastering for beautiful, stretched curls. Another technique I love, especially for getting consistent definition on those looser sections, is finger coiling straight hair that's transitioning or just needs extra encouragement. It sounds tedious, but taking small, wet sections, applying your styling cream or gel, and twirling each section around your finger can create stunning, long-lasting curls, perfect for achieving those desirable curly hairstyles for ladies. For those with long black curly hair, this can really help manage and define your length, preventing tangles and promoting growth. When it comes to products, don’t feel overwhelmed. Start with a good leave-in conditioner, a curl cream for moisture and definition, and a gel for hold. Experiment to find what works for your unique curl pattern. What works for one girl with curly hair might not work for another, and that's okay! Reading reviews from people with similar hair types can be a great starting point. Drying your hair also plays a big role. Air drying is always gentle, but if you need some speed or volume, a diffuser on low heat and speed is a game-changer. Just cup sections of your hair in the diffuser attachment and push it towards your scalp without disturbing the curls too much. This helps set the curl pattern without frizz. Finally, remember that bad hair days are a part of the journey. Don't let them discourage you. Embrace protective styles like braids or buns, rock a stylish headwrap, or simply pineapple your hair at night to preserve your curls and minimize frizz. Connecting with other women with curly hair online or in person can also provide a wonderful source of inspiration and tips. This journey of embracing natural curls is about accepting and celebrating every aspect of your hair and, ultimately, yourself. It's truly amazing to see your natural hair in full effect, flourishing and beautiful. Keep going, and know that your commitment will pay off with truly gorgeous, healthy curls!
