I recently had the most incredible spa day at Balian Springs Chicago, and I just had to share all the details! If you're searching for a truly unique and rejuvenating experience, especially one that's a coed spa, this place needs to be on your radar. It’s perfect for a relaxing outing with a partner or friends. From the moment you step through the entrance, marked by a beautiful decorative metal screen with a leaf pattern, you're transported to a world of tranquility. The interior design of Balian Springs Spa is absolutely stunning, with thoughtful details everywhere. My favorite part was definitely exploring the various Balian Springs hydrotherapy pools. I started my circuit in the large indoor spa pool area, which felt incredibly luxurious with its ornate archway and artificial palm trees. The blue-lit water was so inviting, setting a wonderfully serene mood. Then came the invigorating part! I braved the cold bath pool. There's a larger one at 79 degrees, but I opted for the smaller, more intense chilled bath pool, which was a bracing 58 degrees. It truly wakes up your senses and feels amazing after a warm soak! They even have clear signs indicating capacity, like 3 persons for the 58°F pool and 10 for the 79°F one, which helps manage comfort. Following the cold plunge, I sought out the warmth again, and the Hinoki pool was pure bliss. With its wooden edge and bubbling water, it offered a different kind of therapeutic warmth. You can really feel the tension melting away in these unique pools. Beyond the water, the relaxation rooms at Balian Springs Chicago are equally impressive. I spent some time in a dark relaxation room with lounge chairs facing a large screen displaying a mesmerizing underwater image of a sea turtle – it was so calming, I almost drifted off! There's also a room with warm red lighting and wooden walls that creates an incredibly cozy and soothing ambiance, perfect for unwinding completely. Practical aspects are well-covered too. Guests wear yellow wristbands for access, which are super convenient. And don't forget to treat yourself to one of their refreshing beverages; mine was pink with a lovely flower garnish, making it feel extra special. The coed spa aspect is something I particularly appreciate. It means you can fully share the experience with loved ones without being separated, which isn't always the case with traditional spas. While I didn't explicitly use a coed sauna here, the overall communal design of the hydrotherapy areas and relaxation zones creates a similar inclusive atmosphere for shared wellness. It's a fantastic way to reconnect and relax together. My top tips for visiting Balian Springs: go early to avoid crowds, try the full hydrotherapy circuit for maximum benefit, and definitely carve out time for the unique relaxation rooms. It’s an investment in self-care that's absolutely worth it. I left feeling completely refreshed, renewed, and ready to tackle anything!
