Diasho-in Temple 🌸

My trip to Miyajima Island wouldn't have been complete without a visit to Diasho-in Temple. I'd heard it was a place of profound peace, but experiencing it firsthand was something else entirely. Nestled on the slopes of Mount Misen, just a short walk from the iconic Itsukushima Shrine, this Buddhist temple truly lives up to its reputation as a sanctuary. It’s not just a beautiful place visually; it’s a place where you can genuinely feel the weight of history and the presence of spirituality, a perfect spot for finding inner calm. For anyone planning a trip to Miyajima, I highly recommend dedicating ample time to Diasho-in. It's easily accessible on foot after exploring the lower parts of the island, and the ascent offers increasingly stunning views of the Seto Inland Sea. Wear comfortable shoes, as there are many steps and pathways to explore. Don't rush through it; allow yourself to discover the hidden corners, spin the prayer wheels (manji-guruma) for good fortune, and simply breathe in the tranquil atmosphere. It’s generally less crowded than some other major attractions, which only adds to its peaceful charm, making it an ideal spot for quiet reflection. This temple is not just a beautiful landmark; it’s an active place of worship and meditation, the head temple of the Omuro school of Shingon Buddhism. It holds significant historical and religious importance, serving as a beacon of Buddhist practice for centuries. Visiting Diasho-in gave me a deeper understanding of Buddhist traditions and the profound spiritual journey many embark on. It was more than just sightseeing; it was an opportunity for personal reflection and finding that quiet inner calm I often seek during my travels, a true definition of peace.
