I learned the hard way that not everyone who walks into your life is meant to stay.
Some arrive quietly.
Some leave without warning.
And then there are the few who stand beside you through every storm and remain when the skies finally clear.
Those are the keepers.
For a long time, I wanted everyone to be a keeper.
I held on longer than I should have.
I believed every connection was meant to last.
But life doesn’t work that way.
It hurts when someone fades away.
When the calls stop.
When the silence replaces what once felt permanent.
Sometimes there isn’t even a reason.
Just distance… and quiet… and questions that never get answered.
For years, I struggled with that loss.
I wondered what I had done wrong.
Why people drifted away.
Why some hearts stayed while others disappeared.
Then slowly, life began to show me something deeper.
Everyone you meet has a purpose.
Every goodbye has meaning.
Even the losses shape you in ways you don’t understand at the time.
I didn’t want to believe that at first.
Because accepting it meant facing the truth.
And truth can hurt.
Losing people is never easy.
But I began to realize that some left so I could finally find myself.
Instead of pouring my energy into temporary people, I turned inward.
I looked in the mirror and asked the hard questions I had been avoiding.
That kind of soul searching changes you.
It’s raw.
It’s uncomfortable.
It’s honest in a way that leaves you exposed.
I started uncovering the things I had buried.
The hurt I never healed.
The doubts I never faced.
The parts of myself I had ignored because it was easier that way.
And the moment I truly saw myself, healing quietly began.
The guilt softened.
The regrets loosened their grip.
The weight I carried started to lift as I strengthened my heart, my mind, and my soul.
That doesn’t mean it stopped hurting.
There are still moments when the truth catches me off guard and takes my breath away.
But I’ve learned that pain is part of the journey.
It’s the path toward becoming whole.
So now I’m facing my demons.
Asking the difficult questions.
Walking into the darker parts of myself I once avoided.
I know I’ll always be growing.
Always evolving.
But I’ve taken the hardest step of all.
I opened my eyes.
If I want to truly love myself and the people in my life, I have to heal.
I have to release the negativity.
I have to let go of the people and patterns that no longer belong in my story.
It won’t be easy.
It won’t be quick.
But I know it will be worth it.
Because I am worth it.
And so is my happiness.
When I think back on the ones I’ve lost, I no longer feel only sadness.
I smile and quietly thank them.
Because if they had stayed, I might never have looked deeper within myself.
Finding who I am…
Finding my peace…
Finding my joy…
has been worth every tear along the way.
And today, like every day moving forward, I carry one simple truth with me.
Today, I rise.
